Oh please. The man is nothing but an oldies act live. He's been living in nothing but the past for the last twenty years.

He won't release remasters because he'll never put out dirty words again. As has been stated before, it's the reason they had to change the Ultimate track list and drop Erotic City and it's the reason he'll never get behind a remastered Dirty Mind, etc.

Yeah, fucking how sad is that?...

The only reason he is an oldies act is cuz so many people bitch if he doesn't play PURPLE RAIN everytime he gets on stage. Quite frankly, purple rain can go to hell, I want the new stuff.

The thing that frustrates me is that unless Prince destroys his vault material it will be released some day. I'm sure that whoever gets control of the vault after Prince passes will release at least some of it. This may be selfish but I would like a chance to enjoy this material while I am relatively young.

My ideal solution? WB remasters featuring B-Sides and 12" mixes as bonus tracks with a bonus live disc from the corresponding tour. Prince can then release studio outtakes in whatever way he wishes. WB wins, Prince wins and the fans win.

As far as the vault is concerned, don't get your hopes up. As far as I know, there has been no effort 2 save the tapes within the vault. After all this time, they needed 2 be preserved, via baking the tapes 2 prevent their deterioration. Usually, the tapes R baked, and then transferred digitally. Also, Prince will likely make damn sure that no-one has control of the vault after he leaves this life.

I just don't get this line of thought if these tapes are not preserved.

It has nothing to do with Purple Rain....

You want the "new stuff" - sorry, he no longer plays it live, just a repackaging of his "old stuff", hence the "old act"

Would love nothing more than to see a new tour based solely on the new album, but them days are gone... The new albums are nothing more than an after-thought, a reason to tour and profit from his old material....

Everyone does it eventually, just a pity he jumped to that 'oldies' faze so quickly and easily - the fire seems to have gone somewhat...

Pity we haven't been blessed with some searing hot videos of past tours to remind us of the past greatness (just cheap Cannon-camera shoots that do NO justice to the live brilliance) - I think that's maybe one of the major complaints - no Dirty Mind/Controversy tour dvds, no 1999 dvds, no Parade dvds, whatever happened to the Lovesexy dvd? Nude Tour, Diamonds and Pearls, Act 1 & 2? etc, etc, etc,

The 7 or 8 tours of the 90's - the numerous tours of this decade that never saw a digital release (poor form from the hottest live act around when you consider that everybody else on a lower rung of the live ladder releases dvds of every tour they do, even the most marsh-mellow pop acts and boy bands have 'professional' "live" dvds...)

Seriously, here we have one of the all time great artists who could die tomorrow and all most people will remember is the "kid" slapping 'Apples', having that sour look on his face and playing 3 cords of Purple Rain - fucker deserves so much more representation in the live concert dvd market than he currently has - nobody else comes close as a true musician, but he'll just be remembered as that sour-puss midget with the frilly white collars who once sung Doves Cry and Kiss in the '80's - and that's just FUCKING WRONG!!!.... sad

I'm miss-understood, but at the end of the day, that's all I'm saying...

of days of the engineers arriving at Paisley Park, Prince changed his mind
and sent them all home! There was talk of them baking the tapes back then,
which is pretty worrying to be honest, as this is usually only done as a last
resort when the tapes are in danger of deteriorating beyond repair. If this
isn't done soon, we may find that our 'shitty sounding bootlegs' are the best
quality record there is of a lot of this material!

The reason he doesn't play the new stuff, is because people get in a hissy fit if he doesn't. The general populace/casual Prince fan doesn't wanna hear new stuff...

The lack of live DVD's sucks, but that's true with any artists. How many concerts have the Stones played? Lots. How many good live DVD's do they have? Not many. Led Zeppelin has played tons of shows too, and they have 2 official DVD's. A band/artist can't put out every single fucking show they've ever done....

As for him only being remembered for Purple Rain and the guy who played "When Doves Cry", that's also true of everyone else. Led Zeppelin. Great band, but what song are they gonna be remembered for, forever? Stairway to Heaven and ther fourth album. How about Deep Purple? Smoke on the Water is all they'll ever remember. It's an inevitability with every band....

well the general public and casual fan can kiss my diehard ass nod if they don't like the new stuff 2 damn bad but then again, he could play that new stuff and garner some new fans in the process.

I honestly believe that if the stuff from the vault was saved and he released it officially, people would still find a way to bitch and moan about it. Fans will say stuff like, "Too much of this, not enough of that, why did he take this word out, Electric Intercourse sounds better on my boot than on this shit." I personally do not see how Prince can stand to do the same old songs over and over. It would depress me. I know, the first answer is $$$$. I would not spend cash to go and listen to 1999 and when Doves Cry. I might pay to see the sign of the times concert again though. That shit was just tight.

I have an art benefit to go to Sunday, I was asked to bring some work, and they had the nerve to ask for some previous work that they liked. I sent them some of the newest stuff I had. ONce AGain, my next work is my BEst WOrk. I don't push myself so that I can live in yesterday.

Today is what is exciting. That is why Prince excites me. He gives me something new every year. That is so off the chain. people can critcize him all that want.... but until they can do it and pull it off at the level he does, they are just spewing out their asses.
