"...That is why Prince excites me. He gives me something new every year..."

That's what I like about him too. Even if his new work is considered by most as not as exciting as his past one, at least he is challenging himself, stepping outside of his comfort zone and striving to produce new stuff. Many will argue that it pales compared to his PR, SOTT, etc. years, but I think he deserves credit for at least trying to explore new territories.

And in my eyes, he is still an innovator...

I personally do not see how Prince can stand to do the same old songs over and over. It would depress me. I know, the first answer is $$$$. I would not spend cash to go and listen to 1999 and when Doves Cry. I might pay to see the sign of the times concert again though. That shit was just tight.

I have an art benefit to go to Sunday, I was asked to bring some work, and they had the nerve to ask for some previous work that they liked. I sent them some of the newest stuff I had. ONce AGain, my next work is my BEst WOrk. I don't push myself so that I can live in yesterday.

Today is what is exciting. That is why Prince excites me. He gives me something new every year. That is so off the chain. people can critcize him all that want.... but until they can do it and pull it off at the level he does, they are just spewing out their asses.

From what I heard, WB did manage to talk Prince into allowing a complete
digital archiving of the vault's contents. Unfortunately, within just a couple
of days of the engineers arriving at Paisley Park, Prince changed his mind
and sent them all home! There was talk of them baking the tapes back then,
which is pretty worrying to be honest, as this is usually only done as a last
resort when the tapes are in danger of deteriorating beyond repair. If this
isn't done soon, we may find that our 'shitty sounding bootlegs' are the best
quality record there is of a lot of this material!

Yes, I also heard that he came close 2 doing it, but as far as I know, it still hasn't been done.

I'm pretty sure U can all kiss the vault goodbye.

Damn I wish you were wrong on this one, but I think you're dead right.
R.I.P the Vault; what a damn waste... sad

i totally agree with u and have said 2 other fans as well and laugh or roll my eyes with this statement or opinion i'm giving "well some haven't seen him do PR live b4" rolleyes like in the days of the internet it hasn't already been heard or seen b4. there r over a 100 official songs that have been released since 1996 that have NEVER been played live b4. unlike the tiredness of songs we've all heard b4. as a artist, the need 2 move on create something new is a vital part of the process. prince is no xception thus the different arrangements of songs makes it new. he may state that he may love a song but u can tell at times he's just going through the motions of that particular song just 2 get through it and move onward. music is like food 4 the soul. if u eat the same thing everytime u will get bored. any artist feels the same way.
man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

It's all about that mean green folks. Prince is waiting for the day his masters start to revert back to him, and he has ownership. I will not be surpised if he hasn't already remastered them, and is just waiting for the day his masters came back to him.Prince is like a greedy corp who wants all of the profit.

George Lucas once stated how he was once an independant film maker who wanted to free himself from the jail that was large hollywood studios. Star Wars success made that possible for him. In the process, he became a studio, and a very successful one at that. He then stated how he became that which he tried to escape.

There are certain business rules that businesses can not escape. Prince is finding this out, and is becoming what he hated because his survival depends on it. He is not evil.... it is simply a force of the nature of business.
We are all so full of doody here

As far as the vault is concerned, don't get your hopes up. As far as I know, there has been no effort 2 save the tapes within the vault. After all this time, they needed 2 be preserved, via baking the tapes 2 prevent their deterioration. Usually, the tapes R baked, and then transferred digitally. Also, Prince will likely make damn sure that no-one has control of the vault after he leaves this life.

I don't get it. He is sabotaging his legacy. I swear, at some point, after Prince passes away, I feel like people aren't even going to remember what his music sounded like. He'll turn into an urban legend/fairy tale type of thing that we tell our grandchildren:

"Once, there was this amazing musician, who produced, wrote and played all the songs on his first album, then he slew the evil record companies, and turned his sights on his most loyal of fans... blahblah ...but when he died, they said he didn't even save any of the music he wrote, and no one even has any pictures of what he looked like." eek

When he dies, it's gonna be like Howard Hughes weird in Paisley Park.
"Your presence and dry wit are appealing in a mysterious way."

Why do u think Prince has not released any of his recent concerts on DVD?
Why do u think he has not released any of his work as remasters?

WB ain't latting Prince get in the studio close to those masters..

He might add an extra lyric or scream to the songs, and then they become his..

lol lol falloff

The Masters/songs are just that valuable to them over decades, centuries even.

It is just that simple...

A song called "1999"? Value

"Let's go Crazy" being played in several stadiums, domes, and areas every year?

$$$$$

2 questions.

1. How will his masters revert back to him? Like they give them back to him, or he's buying them back or what?

2. WB owns everything (or anything) in the vault? How can that be?
Maybe we can go to the movies and cry together

When Prince signed his contract. I believe that it's 30 or 35 yrs after each release his masters reverts back to him, so sooner or later he will own them

It's my understanding that WB does NOT have the masters. They never had them.
