IMO, his last GREAT album was Emancipation. woot!

His last good album was 3121.

His last okay/so-so album was The Rainbow Children.

IMO, His last BAD album was Planet Earth. lol

But like it's been said, combine the best trax from his last 3 CDs into a playlist & U've got a great 1 album! A good title 4 that is, 3121: The Musicology of Planet Earth. wink cool
eye wish U were here baby, on me--
Stuck like glue! heart

Tricky99, I agree with everything you said. I'd like to add something else:
I find it odd, that the people who do feel like he's lost something-and he may have, none of know for sure- but what do think compels them or any of us to continue to follow his music, or for that matter come to prince.org? I'm not saying you can't but there is something about him, no matter how you feel about his current albums, that brings us all back to his music, his performances. Even if we don't like the last album, we know the brilliance is still there. I see it everytime I watch 'Fury' on SNL or the halftime show from last year, or listen to 'Get On The Boat', or listen to One Night Alone the album.
The man is just brilliant and speaks from the heart, and i think the last 3 or 4 albums are just him stretching his musical mark. Whether we like it or not, he's trying to widen his horizon. We may not like it because it's out of the range that we think he should be in? Maybe we think he should stop writing new songs and just work on the thousands of songs he has already released?
I imagine it's pretty hard for Bob Dylan fans to buy his latest albums because his fans see him in a particular light and don't want him to dim or fade that image. But they're both artists and as such, need to branch out, just like we all do. That means taking chances, and doing something we've never done before. And trying something we've never tried before. I don't know much about Bob Dylan but i am guessing that if he stops in his tracks and rides his own coattails, like a shark, he would shrivel up and die. So would Prince.
So am I a crazy about everything Prince puts out? No, but i also know he puts his heart and soul into everything he releases, everything. That means so much more to me than did he make a song that would be a hit, or a song that sounds contemporary. I often wonder when we're trying to hold onto the "old" prince and yearn for the "old days when Prince...", whether it be 1984 or 1994 or even 2004... are we holding onto his past or ours?

Very well said. As u said Prince puts his heart and soul into everything he releases. I always hear that and I often wonder why others don't hear it also. U don't have to like something to appreciate it. I think many people hold on desperately to his past. I first started noticeing that when PR came out. A lot his R&B fans had a problem with it, but Prince is always a moving target. I'm still surprised by his latest projects and moves. No other artist has held my interest like he does. I think a part of his great appeal is that the majority of the music springs directly from his soul. He is not a puppet like a great majority of artists that are dependant on producers, writers, and other musicians to create there work. So even though his work changes the core does not.

musicology

some stuff on 3121

planet earth was average in my opinion

plenty of fans i know feel that he needs something that he has lost.

he needs to get it back for the next project and need to be back on top.

MY OPINION. if you are offended i didnt mean to dishonor your god

U miss my point. I am well aware we have different songs/albums that appeal to us. I'm talking about the dismissive types who find no merit in his work past a certain album. It's not about him being God..jeez

if people don't like his music why don't they go and find someone whose music they do like - what is the point of criticism, carping and wingeing on about it when there are plenty of musicisians/artists about - i don't get it confused
"C'mon y'all - let me hear you sing, c'mon y'all, shake, c'mon y'all, jump" - Yes Prince -
"London do you feel for me what I feel for you"- yes Prince -
"Can I play my guitar now?" - yes please

Dance

Leave Prince ALOOOOONE!

He's small and he's delicate.

He's got a big head with a little body and sharp ass teeth.

Don't you think life is hard enough for him?

Then you insult the man's work?

He's got Jamie Foxx and Lenny Kravitz chasing after his boogina, it's hard to get anything done.
