What's cool about Prince taking a name that originally referred to some"one" else? Websheriff is all up on our asses about using the very word "Prince", but it's okay for Prince to do it with PFU? Sorry, decidedly NOT cool, but the hypocrisy is not surprising, either.  i completely see where u're coming from, which is why i said "kinda" cool and not just outright cool. What I mean is that it reminds me of times when Prince released a press release of his own right b4 warners did for album releases and mostly when brown mark had a bomb album name but no title track that matched so Prince hurried up and recorded a song with that name before brownie could get his album out there...i think it was brown mark...and the name of the song is escaping me...it might be shockadelica....not sure right now. | |

The whole problem in all this is that he has an established history of hurting his fans. There is no question that the bootleggers are legitimate targets but there were people who had lyric sites and other sites with pictures and stuff and not one single dime was made from them. They were resources and a valued part of our community and something like the dttlyrics site got caught up in his madness. As if anyone on the planet is going to think the dttlyrics site tried to claim credit for the lyrics they were posting. Any sane rational person could see it for what it was, a fansite with lyrics to the songs that were the soundtrack to most of our lives. Someone like Ben does this for free and we have been all brought together because of Prince's music and to reflect back on how so many innocent people were wronged by Prince, it didn't really take much to bring back anger over that. Personally I was sickened he was going for round 2 when he should have learned his lesson the first time. Back then we were all separate islands and pretty disjointed. Now we are together and focused and I do believe it is that that helped to get "negotiations" on track and that had this been 97, he would have succeeded in shutting the org and the other sites down. so if this was all a misunderstading and web sherriff is truly at the heart of this, bygones can be bygones but Prince better watch his ps and qs in the future man. I've been slowly growing out of Prince these last couple of years. Primarily because of the last 3 mediocre records and his weird JWs bullshit. All this is just too much for me. It should not be this difficult to be a fan. I've been grooving to Prince since I was twelve and saw him on the Purple Rain Tour back in '84 and I've since him some 8 times since then. But,I'm bored with him now. All his business shennanigans outshine the music. I only come on these boards to see what my friends are up to and to find out about what's going on with other artists. But if I don't hear some formal response from his camp than I'm really done. The "PFunk" song is funky, but that's what I thought of "Rock the Boat" and "Chelsea Rodgers" on the first couple of listens, now I don't even bother. And this PFunk song almost feels like an insult. It's like he's saying, 'here let me dangle a carrot so you all can shut up.' Maybe I'm just getting old. Who knows. But my adoration for pop-stars has finally expired. "Kiss" came on the radio this afternoon and for the first time in 25 years I turned Prince off. I just don't give a damn anymore.
