I absolutly agree with this post. and a few others that aren't buying the "oh look a new songs out...let's not forget about the music". I appreciate that during times of frustration he gets creative and comes out with a great song. But I'm seeing all of the OMG I love thigs song GAGA BS all over the place.

Take a look at what he's really done...

Taken the likeness and name from PFU in a direct manner that mirrors whats going on with the copyright infringement. He then makes a song from it in which the lyrics seem to be a response to what's going on as opposed to coming out with a statement or some sort of explaination for what's really going on. And the song practically spits in the eyes of the last 3 albums.

It's certainly a very bold statement. And it seems like a nice gesture. But he needs to make amends.

yeah...im kinda offended by it all actually...it's a childish response IMHO.

Hello ! I'm french and even if I think my english is ok, I just don't understand the lyrics of this song. Can someone tell me what he's saying ? Anyways, whatever he might be saying not answearing directly lacks dignity. His fans deserve more. Even if he still knows how to make good music...

It's better than ALL of Planet Earth and probably most of 3121 and Musicology too. I hope his next album is as good as this.

I'm more amazed by the level of anger he's elicited from a fan base that's almost as old as he is. I'd expect this backlash from, say, a Justin Timberlake site, but damn...it's all about the funk when it's all said and done, and that's what I hear when I listen to PFUnk.

and, well, it might not be the Grand Progression, but it sho is fonky!

Right on.

IMHO this is a major constitutional battle that not only affects my participation in discussing prince as an artist but my fundamental constitutional rights. Prince's lawyers should not be allowed to bully people nor should websites be paid off for following his pre-ordained rules at the cost of constitutional rights. it's a scary precedence that this man's lawyers are trying to set.

I'm getting confused here. I thought this was about images and videos. Where or how is it about having a discussion? Did these letters say you can't have discussions about him? I only ask because people keep saying that.

It's not just about the music. He isn't trying to introduce us to wonderful material, look what it took to drag this out of him, he is instead trying to control what we do and say! This song doesn't change that AT. ALL.

You're wrong there! It's ALL about the music...nothing less, nothing more. Without the music, we wouldn't be on this or any site to begin with. So, let's put that inaccuracy to bed once and for all.

As for your concern about P controlling what we "do and say"? Well, if you're worried about someone you probably don't know controlling what you as an adult do or say, then you have far greater problems then if a song makes up for a perceived injustice against a website on the internet, or you as a fan of the artist it represents.

Look, P being an ass isn't anything new. He's been celebrated over the years for the very behavior he's being persecuted for now. You don't see the hypocrisy in that?

I can understand fan's frustration regarding Prince's actions of late. But, to be perfectly honest here, he's been more then generous with us in the past. Maybe we can try and focus on that as well.

Just my 2 cents.

And we have been more than generous supporting his music, his shows, his erratic behavior, and just HIM all around. What's wrong with wanting a little bit of respect from him? That's what it comes down to with me. He's laughing at us, the people that have made him succeed. That's not cool.

Uh, I haven't been coming here for Prince for a long while now. Remove him from this site and I could care less and that is even before all this bullshit. This site has evolved way past the point of having legitimacy only because of Prince. Duck your head in the other forums if you don't believe me.

As for caring about being controlled, YOU SHOULD BE CONCERNED TOO! What if some artist you have ever expressed criticism over tried and pulled this same thing? Would you just let them close down your community because of it? I have been one of the FEW who have openly praised and loved Planet Earth. Those of us who are criticizing the man have been very capable of praising him in other instances. For godsakes, they were asking that the search function on HQ be disabled so people couldn't search for "Prince" on the site. confused

As for his generosity is concerned, I certainly remember paying for membership to the NPGMC for material I cannot listen to anylonger because he jimmied the content with licensing bullshit. I have not encountered that with any other music purchases anywhere else. I paid for the downloads. I paid for the albums. My friends dropped $700 on concert tickets alone in July, and you can add thousands more to that list. I'd say that WE have been plenty generous with Prince too over the years.....

Claim copyright on PFU and as you have seniority on the claim through time are perfectly entitled to serve princefams with a cease and desist notice

I would also apply for a trademark for it in the UK as well

Under trademark law their use of the letters PFU and the words "princefamsunited" could be classed as "passing off as"

Claim copyright on PFU and hit them with a cease and desist

The law works for everyone

Yeah, but you're actually making my point for me. I mean, if you visit this site for reasons other then Prince, why would you even concern yourself with what he has to say? If the name of this site was changed tomorrow to "toothpaste.org", and the same people were here, would you still visit? If your answer is "yes", who gives a flying ugly-bump what Prince does or says? That's what you should be asking yourself...

I can understand your point sosgemini. But, to be quite frank here, would this community even exist without the musical foundation for which it was established?

Look, I met my wife through a mutual friend. If I had never made friends with that person to begin with, would I even have ever met...much less marry her? Probably not. It's the same thing here. Sure, this site has more substance that simply being about Prince. But, without him, it's just www.org Knowhutimsayin'?

Paying what's owed for a product isn't really considered generosity if you really think about it. I mean, we're talking about a song released as a response...a FREE song no less. He's been doing things like that for a long time now. I ask you...when's the last time you gave Prince something for free?

Hell, I've "dropped" $$ on concert tickets like the next guy. But, I can also remember a few years back attending a concert here in LA (disguised as a press conference) at the El Rey for absolutely nothing out of pocket. Again, it's a common thing with him. Funny though, I've struggled to find any comments about those cases amidst all the complaining over the past few days...

All in all, I think we've been pretty lucky being P fans. I'd hate for something like this to push him farther away...

exactly. This is why some posts don't warrant a response, as they take the situation and wildly claim that Prince is literally attempting to control what is said about him; I'm waiting for someone to claim that the suit will require us to only think good thoughts about him, lest we be banned from the internet. Legally, he has a point about the images and video, which is why they don't mention message boards. To say that this is a constitutional battle...well, that's kind of silly.

actually, its not. Ben has made it very clear that the org has always accommodated Prince's requests but that these new rounds of requests go beyond what is sensible and do indeed impact our constitutional rights. furthermore, the fashion that websheriff is manipulating the patriot act, using it to threaten websites needs to be challenged in the courts...these are constitutional issues and i am appalled that prince would offer a song as a peace offering for his representations actions as if that's going to pacify folks...and to do it in such a flippant way...princefams united? a leaked press release slamming folks? its silly and childish...

look, if his attorney's did not want to engage in a legal battle then they shouldn't have threatened these website's the way they did...and no song or website is ever going to make this situation go away.

That song isn't a peace offering, it is a slap in the face and I don't care how good it sounds. It doesnt' change the tone of this whole thing, just makes it worse that people are so easily swayed when so much is at stake. It sickens me.

Slap in the fact to who actually? I'm a Prince fan. I take it as a damn good piece of music. Being as much a fan as you are, are you saying I should feel the sting of the slap as well?

This is getting frickin' ridiculous!! I mean, I've been what I would consider a useful member of this community. I have my own opinions, and I simply will not allow anyone to dictate how I should feel, or how I will express those feelings.

Let me ask you a very simple question. What would you like to see Prince do here? What would appease you? I'm curious as to what you feel he owes you...

forgiving Prince because of this song makes as much sense as Bush gettin' re-elected...disbelief

It really is! lol Are the fams rolling over on the other sites too?

The fams are rolling, but the fans are still focused on the issue(s), even if the song is funky.

However, according to one of the HQ mods,

Turnitup:

I think everyone here knows that I always have the fans best interests at heart when I'm negotiating with Prince's team on behalf of PFU.

Trust me when I say there's a complete change in wind direction.

Things WILL be resolved for the good of all involved - more later today that demonstrates unity.
