why is news offensive? cause he doesn't sing on it?

Please. Because it is BORING. It's full of meandering jam sessions that don't turn into anything memorable.

that bass line from north sticks in my head from time 2 time
man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

The most clear cut thing about this album, more so than any other album he's ever released, is that it's so obvious that MOST of the songs on here are leftover material. Old material. P went straight to The Vault for a "new" album. Some tracks actually sound like their from 88-89 period. And definately from the early 90's. The only thing P did that was "new" was re-record his lead vocal, maybe change the drum sounds, like the snare, and add new guitar leads. That's it.

was it john coltrane that said u can only be creative no more than 10 years?

is prince finished as a recording artist? what was the last thing he did that was considered NEW? TRC?

Just "trying" to listen to it again today. It is so embarrasing, so pointless. Im not normally a negative person, but this is really is so bad and as a life long Prince fan I cant understand why he would make such slop.

We all know how bad the lyrics to Resolution are, but it doesnt stop there - Mr Goodnight is probably a 3121 reject, and it is STUUUUPID! Somewhere here on earth is dumb fluff with an embarrasing sound clip of an old record being played at the start. The 1 you wanna C gets lots of love round here, but its a throw away, bad produced half assed and really badly sung song. planet earth has the cheesy could it be magic ruining it, Guitar is booooring. chelsea rodgers isnt prince singing and is really repetitive song which goes no where. All the midnights sounds like a drunk retard - I could go on...

After the progress of musicology and 3121, this is a real let down.

Some of the other records which people usually consider "crap", like NPS, Emancipation, Rave, Chaos, News, etc I always found some songs which were worth listening to on these, but PE has NOTHING worth listening to. Thats why I think it will go down as his worst..

You're entitled to an opinion, but you're really off on this. PE is a really good album. How do I know this? Because after nearly 10 years of rejecting Prince, my wife asked me to copy PE so she could listen to it in her car. Trust me, if my wife is now listening to new Prince music, PE is a gem.

I like it myself, too.

Prince albums are hard to review because there are so many different styles appealing to some & not to others. With that said as far as arranging goes this is the weakest collection of songs he's ever released. None of the songs have a memorable hook & what's worse he's coupled that with his overt religous references. This is the first album i wasn't moved to purchase & I've been a fan since 1999.

the album i guess.

also the "save the earth" "environmental issues" of the album is a total turn off for me.

You know, I had a similar experience. I have an associate that has called Prince gay, and even missed all the Musicology and 3121 hype, ask me to burn Planet Earth for him.
That shocked me. And his 10-year-old daughter is singin' Mr. Goodnight after she said he looked like a woman. lol
So Planet Earth deserves props. smile

I agree actually. It can be taken offensively and it really shouldn't be said. neutral

OK, I take that back. I should use those words, but I couldnt think of another way to describe it at the time..

for all of you who have commented - thanks. you (and I) all have rights to opinions on music. I have the right to say it is his worst ever.

Other albums, like Rave, Chaos, TRC, NPS keep appearing, and someone dissed Purple Rain (wtf??), but Im OK with that as its your opinion.

I still love Prince, and I regularly listen to records like 1999, ATWIAD, Parade, Lovesexy, Controvery, etc with amazement and happiness. I am still a Prince fan, one bad album wont change that.

I feel ya, Vinxy. Add Batman to that and we are so there. And don't beat yourself up too bad over the "drunk disabled individual" comment. Of course you don't mean it like that. Occasionally an accidental "your/that's gay" slip out and I shame myself if people are around confused

And, for the record, all else aside, Chaos is absolutely terrible. I bought it the day it dropped, all excited, and have yet to be able to get completely thru it

The truth is that Planet Earth will go down in history owing to its method of distribution. It's quality isn't worthy of recording. I don't think it's his worst, it's just not very good.

Not to beat this topic like a kettle drum but this isn't a new concept that Prince doesn't put in the effort he used to in regards to songwriting, PE is just one example. What distrurbs me is that he's released a whole album of throwaways as opposed to a handful, IMO of course.

I don't know?

what about:
3121
rainbow children
old friends for sale

He hasn't released a jam since 2001! His career has been on a downward spiral since he became a JW. i think he needs a life coach or something. lol
