Who doesn't care about Prince "controlling his image", youtube, ebay, etc??

I consider myself a hardcore Prince fan. I'm from the Twin Cities--I go to everyone of his shows in town, I have all of the albums, several bootlegs, etc. However, I just don't have the energy to care about Prince's copyright controlling thing. It's not that I think he is to be applauded for doing what he is doing, I just don't care that much. It doesn't really affect my life or Prince fandom whatsoever and I don't feel upset about it in the slightest. Does anyone else feel the same?

I don't care. I'm not a fan at all of Prince Nelson; I'm a fan of Prince music.

I am really just in it for the music. If I paid attention to everything that a man that I don't even know personally did, I would go nuts! I just want good music. It is not my choice how, when, where, & if ever, I recieve the gift of that. I think that everyone who is getting pissed about all this is just going to make the situation worse.confused I mean, we are actually very lucky music wise. I could go on but I'll digress. biggrin

You can't seperate the artist from their art.

I perfectly understand the need for an "independant" artist to protect his image. He doesn't have the security of a long-term recording contract or the muscle of a major label to do it for him.

I care to the extent that he focuses on the principle of being taken advantage of, the point where I don't care, is if it's more of a hassle, than starting a new business approach, with upcomming material. For the sake of his peace of mind. I'd much rather Prince be happy, than worry about, yesterday's contribution to the World Wide Web....The Web isn't even a teenager in the grand scheme of things.

I don't understand why it upsets people, either. It's Prince's music, videos, image, etc. I have no problem with what he's doing.

Yea you're absolutely right.

I don't understand people getting all bent out of shape about this one way or another.

If you are a long term prince fan, a fan of his music, you should already know a lot of what he does may make you shake your head and wince sometimes but its a bout the music and your enjoyment of it.

I find it totally understandable that a man or a company should care and protect their intellectual property, copyrights, etc., whatever it is than you earn your income.

As a small business owner myself, I totally understand. Even I, ... whenever I see someone using an image of my product, taken by my company, for their use, for financial gain or not without my permission pisses me off so completely!
People don't understand the blood sweat and tears that you sometimes go through to try and create something and how you put your neck on the line for something,
so im with him on this, fuck all the little twerps whining and complaining for your free downloads and shit,..... get a life,

In that same token, i WISH he would take care of his product better with all this talk of his master tapes disintegrating in a vault somewhere, again as a nobody small business owner myself, it appalls me even think that someone of his stature and financial means would let that happen to his product.

Much of this stuff isn't used for financial gain.

Anyway, if you're a business owner, then you understand the importance of good business, and of making a consumer want to use your service/product. Often times it's not the the product/service itself, but the consumer relations.

Yes, it is his image, he can do what he wants and it will not effect anyone here, really.
Still, as fans, I would think, everyone wants him to do the right thing. I'm not saying if the move was right or wrong, and I don't even know all the details, but it may be good to do a counter move. Something for the fans/public. By giving something away or doing a free web event, it makes it clear that his stand is not a miserly one, but one of principle.

yes youre completetly right.
But like i said i dont care one way or another,..and by the same token the guy has done a heck of a lot for the fans, cheap tickets to musicology and O2 for example, free album giveaway with newspaper...etc. etc.
But you are absolutly right about the importance of maintaining good public relations
The guy is in serious need a great P.R. man

Since I have an old computer with a $10 a month dial up internet service, I can't see youtube videos so I could care less. Even if I could see them, I would rarely search for Prince videos though because I already have most of the ones I want. Although I would like The Midnight Special Performance, Saturday Night Live from 1980, and the long version video of "Let's Pretend We're Married". lol It wouldn't matter though because they would be stuck in a computer. Big thrill. Hell, I would want them on a DVD. lol

As far as I am concerned his music is a gift not an obligation. While videos and photos are nice, he does not owe them to any of us.

square In the scheme of life, it makes no real difference to me. However, in the broader sense it is relevant to all of us:

Prince is an internationally known figure. His videos, etc. are not limited to just the U.S. There's no telling what sorts of infringements are ocurring overseas. Where in some (not all) countries, copywrites are violated for profit all the time. The control agencies that are supposed to police such activities often look the other way.

I applaud his efforts to control the unauthorized use of this materials. If he doesn't we'll be buying Prince videos produced in China, the graphics work will contain pealing lead paint -- we'll all get sick and die. sick

See, so Prince is actually saving our lives!

I love Prince and his music. I don't shop on ebay and I don't bother with youtube...etc! Although I like to look at pictures of Prince I'd much rather see him in the flesh doing what he does best...entertaining!

I don't care about what's going on, nor do I understand all of the drama, hate, and anger! Some people really need to step back, take a deep breath and find something to do that doesn't involve sitting in front of their computers quite so much if what Prince is doing moves them to such a state of upset that I've witnessed here and on other sites.

The way I see it is that he's just living his life...just another one of his bizarre endeavours. I support him in this venture because I can't see myself doing anything but that, and I hope that after all his troubles and expense he makes some headway toward his goals!

I wait patiently for another chance to see him live...BRING ON THE TOURS!!!! biggrin

I don't particularly care, it's not like it affects me in any way. But I think the guy is shooting himself in the foot in a big way. Right now when his stock is so high, he throws another high-profile childish temper tantrum that reminds the casual audience why they stopped paying attention to him in the late 80s/early 90s.

Some of Prince's causes, are noble and worthy. This one, is not. You cannot control everything, some things you have to just let be. And this is such a small, petty argument.

I agree I don't give it any thought. I don't get why people are mad. They are way too obsessed with his life.
