I agree that ultimately, Prince will come out of retirment -- but his actions in the past 4 years certainly lead to the inference he is planning to retire -- he's done nothing but engage in publicity stunts and actions solely for the purpose of amassing large quantities of WEALTH and gaining a top-notch REPUTATION -- the two ingredients he probably sees (and most people see) as ideal conditions for retirement.

Back in 1993 or whenever he said he was going to retire - he was broke compared to now...and he was viewed as wierd, irrelevant, and outdated. Those are horrendous conditoins for retirement and he knew so. He's been plannin this one.

I have my doubts that he will. No way. It seems to me that he's in a very good place right now spiritually & mentally... I got that all from Planet Earth and how it came across 2 me.
And at first, after hearing it, I feared that it'd be the last album he ever made and that took a little away from the 2nd listen. Cuz it sounds like a good ending for him, but if he can do that, it means he's capable of more. Basically screaming "there's a lot more where that came from"... it'd be a shame if PE was it.

But if he lives 4 music like I know he does, he wouldn't be able to retire 4 very long even if he wanted 2.

Prince might retire. But knowing him he might create some alter ego and drop more slamming music for us.

Can you imagine just walking out on stage and having thousands and thousands of people giving you ovations and applause, some cheering even crying, and you haven't even opened your mouth? People paying hundreds, in one case millions of dollars just to hear you sing? Imagine this happening all over the world! Honey trust me, Prince ain't going nowhere.

Wow... I rarely take that into account of anything. But I've only heard his albums and seen his videos. Never been 2 a concert, but hopefully I'll get 2 c one b4 he gives it all up (again, if he ever does).

Simply amazing now that I think about it... these days, he's really a veteran & actually, legend is the best word to describe him. Thinking all those people who see him to have a good time, but also because they really respect him 4 his talents.
Too bad the ignorant public can't see him the same way.

umm...

heh, I know the majority of u guys wish the same thing, that he'd return to his old tricks.

Don't u think at his age that it would just a tad creepy? haha

the ignorant call him "weird"... the last thing he needs 2b called is "dirty old man", know what I mean?

Now, he's a matured and seasoned performer and should remain so. That's one of the things that drew me to him... in fact, that's all I knew of him b4 I came here. PR & 2 other apperances & the SuperBowl... that's all I had 2 go on.

And "the old Prince", I think I wanted 2 stay clear of him for the longest time (ok, 2-3 months, haha)... now that I know him, I accept him and like him a lot. But that's all in the past.

He sure seems to be preparing for it. IMO the only thing that remains to be seen is what is his definition of retirement.

How does one retire from their life? Unless... perish the thought!

If true, then he's got some other cryptic riddle up his sleeve that he can giggle about as we all try to figure out what he really means.

Prince already stated something like this couple months ago, it's not a surprise, people. Tom just didn't quote the exact
words Prince made at the London 21 Press conference, or whenever he made the
statement of vacationing and reading the bible more, do you remember?
What we think of 'retiring' is two different meanings to Prince.

confused

carry on.....

I hope this time he really retires and throw one big Retiring Party. bananadance --Im there! wink

Yeah, I saw the press conference. He just said that he was taking some time off to study the Bible... and that could take any length of time.

I'm not too worried.

Exactly. I remember that in 1985 and gettin' all upset but then it didn't happen. Then again he says it and again I never missed him. So I bet true retirement won't come easy for him lol

Thank God. He's done enough damage to his legacy for the last 10 years or so.

What do you mean? Prince has done fantastic things in his musical career, every human being, if they live long enough will change, hopefully expanding and growing, which he has. He has come full circle but still has much to offer. If he does leave he would have left the music world a better place and millions of people with memories that cannot be matched or forgotten. Can you say the same thing? What have you done for anyone lately, except bitch what will the world remember about YOU? confused
[Edited 9/7/07 8:13am]

Those are some really vague statements. What exactly qualifies as "growing and expanding"? How exactly has Prince "come full circle"? I hate people who use that kind of vague, cliched argument because they appear more valid than they really are. Also, how do my accomplishments relate to a criticism of Prince? Are you implying that someone should not criticize somebody else unless their own achievements are comparable to the subject of criticism? By that specious logic, nobody who hasn't been president should criticize Bush.

I think Prince has fallen a long way in the last 10 years. He's given us really boring albums with a few exceptions. I certainly wouldn't be a fan on the strength of his last few albums alone. They've actually made me lose faith in his songwriting talents. He probably realizes his loss of talent. If PE had been a huge success, you can bet he wouldn't contemplate retirement.

After seeing his performances in London on the 11th & 31st August and 1st of September (, I can quite confidently say that he isn't ready to give it all up - NO WAY! He was having the time of his life!! He kicked it way past the strict 11pm curfew and then went on to do a 2 hour set at the aftershow - he kept coming back for more, especially when the crowd broke into 'Ooohwaaayoooh ooooo-ooooh's'! He grinned his beautiful ass through the lot (and he looked and grinned at me :flustered:! at the a/show btw eek )

I think that this Tom bloke has got his facts wrong - Prince said that he was going to take time out to study the bible.

Prince eats, sleeps, breaths and even THINKS music - he may slow down a little but he won't ever give it up. I think that's maybe why his marriages haven't worked - he's already married to his music. Having said that I truly hope he finds his true soul mate, his perfect match and has babies etc... For THAT I am willing to volunteer! It's the least I can do for grinning at me lol
I'm not stopping. I haven't even taken my coat off

C'mon and dance while you, while you still have your cherry babe, cherry babe..

confused even though he has talked of taking time off he did also say in the interview (giant) that for his next project he was thinking of using flutes and stuff surely that kinda hints he isnt thinking of retiring unless he is going to release another album in the next 9 months in which case he isnt gonna be spending all that much time studying sounds like he cant decide what he wants either that or he is being misinterpreted

hope he doesnt neutral

I agree with this also.

As much as I would bawl should Prince step out of the public eye, not perform live or record another song, in the end, what I really want is for him to be happy.
