N.E.W.S. has the worst packaging out of all of em! And the hologram on PE is cool, but unnecessary. My copy of Musicology has that flap that won't stay closed.

I guess he's just trying to be original, I keep turning my PE cover over and over like there's supposed to be MORE.

Almost everything since Rave (including Rave) has been environmentally-friendly.

Plastic jewel cases, as nice as they are, are wasteful. A lot of other bands use digipacks.

Having said that, his album cover designs leave a lot to be desired.

I am just happy to get the music. Packaging simply covers the disc before purchasing, otherwise it goes into my carrying case or my CD rack. Heck, a sleeve would be fine too. lol

I'm glad other people are sick of those cardboard sleeves like I am. As many CDs as I have, I have to have some sort of organization so I can find a CD very quickly without having to physically go through each and every CD to find it. This means having lots of CD holders. The CD holders are made with slots in which the plastic cases fit perfectly. You can also read the labels in the holders which makes it very easy. Also.....if you have friends over and you see an empty slot, you know someone has stolen a CD and you don't let them leave your house alive until they have given it back. lol

I have a lot of my old vinyl on CDs. I prefer the sound of vinyl over CD but the only reason I listen to CDs more than vinyl is because it takes too long to find the vinyl that I want to hear. Imagine if every artist started using the packaging Prince is using. It would be like the old days of flipping through stacks of vinyl which takes forever.

With each new recent Prince album, I have a new routine. I find me an empty plastic case and I get me some scissors. I usually have to cut a little off the length of the top, bottom, and one side but I usually get the packaging into a case perfectly and it still ends up looking professional looking. Then I place the CD in slot with all the rest of the Prince CDs since "For You" and it stays in order, rather than being placed on a shelf all alone.

I've noticed that myself. I saw a Ohio Players greatest hits compilation a few months ago in the record store and it was in a plastic case. When I got in the mood for some Ohio Players and went back to record store a few months later, I saw the same compilation in the store in a cardboard sleeve without a plastic case. It's called record companies being cheap. I didn't even buy it because those cardboard sleeves are too big to fit in a CD holder's slot and I already have three or four loose CDs laying around on a shelf away from the other CDs.

I have a two CD set that is made very unique. It is a cardboard sleeve that has a hole cut out in the middle. Each CD is placed in the cardboard sleeve in a paper sleeve. The paper sleeves have a section that shows through the cardboard hole, of a round vinyl record label. The CD packaging looks like a miniature vinyl 12 Inch single. That's very creative. However, people seem to be finding very creative ways of being cheap.

I like the artwork too, one of the best! But from my opinion it cheapens the look and feel of the CD.

Free I suppose - given away with paper and gigs.

I havent seen it in any stores at all so I assumed that was just how it was being distributed

Perhaps the retail version with Hologram is only availabe in US then

Jewel cases are terrible for the environment so I assume P is conscious about that. I often think it looks cooler and more interesting with digipacks than jewel cases. I like the feeling of it in my hands and to open it up like a book... And the artwork on P's recent covers has been great, imo. TRC is my absolute favorite. Something that really baffles me is the negativity concerning Musicology. I thought it was beautifully done. The angle in which his photo was taken, his pose, the colors and the thorns.... the design to make it have the ol' school-book feeling, the thoughtful texts.. Love it smile

Planet Earth doesn't need any more plastic produced, oil plundering never to decompose. More important than preferences over CD casings. ha
