The Morning Papers..video, captures romanticism beyond compare.

IMO this has got to be,by far the "purest" dedication of love...soooo precious, soooo virtous.

I'll give Prince the benefit of the doubt and say that he may have been referring to the span of difference in years between two lovers, as opposed to one being under the age of consent or what is socially acceptable. But it sill has a ill factor to it worse than SISTER from Dirty Mind.

Great tune though.

They fell in love with each other...the responsible party is mom(that is Mayte's mom), just listen to Curious Child( Emancipation Album), he tells it all.

He realized that she was new 2 love
Naive in every way
Every schoolboy's fantasy she was
That's why he had 2 wait
If he poured his heart into a glass and offered it like wine
She could drink and be back in time 4 the morning papers

They could take a walk down the ocean side
Make a wish on every wave
They could find a carousel and ride
Or kiss in every cave
They could contemplate the entire universe or just one star
Oh, just how far was the walk 4 the morning papers?

Yeah
Let me play it 4 U one time, oh oh
Well
Hey
Shucks

Why is age more than a number when it comes 2 love?
Should we ask the ones who speculate
When they don't know what it's made of?
Should we ask the moonlight on your face or the raindrops in your hair?
Or should we ask the man who wrote it there in the morning papers?
Hey

Should we ask the moonlight on your face or the raindrops in your hair?
Should we ask the man who wrote it there in the morning papers?
Oh yes!
Somebody help me sing it now

La, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la, la

Oh yeah ?hey, hey, hey
Yes

La, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la, la

G'on! Play!

La, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la, la

OK

please explain?

In a room full of harlots and fantasy
Destiny beckoned us there
Curious child on the balcony
We took the dare

Careless I was 2 caress thee
Yet never regretting the time
The joy that we shared, it was meant 2 be
And not a crime
No, it's not a crime

If memory serves us, we will align
2 the truth that we most often share
Curious child, U are on my mind
Do U care?

Yeah ... he needn't have bothered with the '320 year old robs a cradle' line. 35 year old was bad enough.

Musically, it's a great song ... but the lyrics are pretty creepy. Especially the 'school boys' fantasy' bit.

A great melody ruined by creepy lyrics and otherwise stupid touches; that pretty much sums up the entire symbol album.
The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

sure, I noticed the somewhat "inapproriate" lyrics... but I don't really care too much about that.

It's one of the most beautiful songs on the album... love all of the music and the different touches he added.

And 2b even more "inapproriate"... it kinda makes the idea of me falling in & out of love with a guy edging 50 a little less messed up sounding... but whatever... a girl can dream, right?
had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

I think they're only inappropriate if read in the context of the actual conditions upon which he met Mayte. He met her when she was 16 I believe and they corresponded until she was 18, when she moved out to see him--that part is creepy and nasty to me.

But the lyrics may not denote the underage issue at all. They may just be referring to the fact that the 18 year old Mayte and the 30-something year old Prince were so far apart in age. In this regards, he has a valid point in asking "Why is age more than a number, when it comes to love?". And she doesn't have to be under 18 to be every school boys fantasy. I wanted to fuck the shit out of Blondie when I was 12. shrug

But still. Kind of creepy.

Besides the age thing, the "If he poured his heart into a glass and offered it like wine" line really creeps me out. It's just a gross image.

Harlots mean whores,The oldest profession in the world is prositution and that has been like that since the dawn of time. Now in the european and asian theatres you can buy children and have them saved until adulthood and take them home because they are your property. It's almost like paying a dowery for a woman now dod you need more explainations come see me

LOL! I know. I don't want to imagine a girl drinking anything of Prince's.
