Anyone else agrees that the middle part of Planet Earth is the albums weak spot? Personally i think Planet Earth loses momentum with the following songs: Future Baby Mama, Mr. Goodnight and All the midnights in the world.
Future Baby Mama and Mr. Goodnight are dull, boring, calculated songs IMO. They sound as if they are recorded much earlier then the rest of the songs (mid-nineties), and if Prince just took them right out of the Vault. Personally i like All the Midnights in the world, love the refreshing simpleness of it and it has a nice little melody. But placed right after Future Baby Mama and Mr. Goodnight it weakens the middle part of Planet Earth IMO. To resume: The sequence of the first 4 songs works splendidly IMO, then you have the ´dip´ of the forementioned 3 songs, things get ´up´ again then with the catchy Chelsea Rodgers and the lovely Resolution (musically way underrated IMO, apart from the corny lyrics). Lion of Judah is a moody track, and not bad at all, But IMO he should have placed a more direct, anthemic song between Lion of Judah and Resolution (which i consider a nice closer). What do you think?

I happen to enjoy Mr. Goodnight...it's a guilty pleasure! All the Midnights took me about three listens to appreciate; it isn't strong by any means but it is a nice little track. Future Baby Mama IMO is listenable, but sounds like a rehashed Emancipation track. Lion of Judah just plain IRKS me! It's got the "Chaos and Disorder" sound, without the accessibilty of the C&D songs. I can't get into it no matter how hard I try.
Overall, I agree with you. While these songs certainly aren't the throwaways that some make them out to be, they do make up the "weak spot" of the album.

i thought you meant the middle part of the title song
because that is what ruined the album for me and what makes it hard for me to listen to any of it as a whole now. i like the individual tracks but i just can't play the album in sequence becaues i just have to skip the title track since i can't stand it. guitar is bland and repetitive upon further listening. somewhere here on earth is cool enough but sounds too much like an outtake from the One Nite Alone piano cd the one u wanna c is still a nice catchy tune future baby mama has some killer music and soundz on, around and in it but the lyrics are alas pure shite. mr goodnight, funny enough i kinda like all the midnights in the world -best song on here imo chelsea rodgers -most overrated prince tune ever lion of judah is still very nice. bland, but nice, it's 2007's A Million Days. you will never adore it but you will also never grow sick of it resolution. still like it a lot. but loved it more when it was a bit slower and called reflection overall this album's weak spot lies between track 1 & 10 and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

naw it was ruined from 0:00:01 on the cd ...it let up during guitar and somewhere here on earth but then started back up 2 suck balls man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

My least favorite tracks are at either end. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Disagree...this CD is solid, throughout.
All The Midnights In The World is my second fav song on the CD... Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

Agreed about "Future Baby Mama" and "Mr. Goodnight". "Guitar" is down there too. Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Let'a celebrate his legacy by counting down the most beloved Prince albums, as decided by you!

i like all of the songs, even the ones in the middle. but i do think the cohesion of the album falls apart when he gets into the contmporary (or even retro) r&b stuff in the middle.
it sort of loses sight of itself as a tight pop-rock album. actually, this is the first time in a long time when i wish he'd put out a double album. or 2 separate ones. to me, all of the material on the album is strong, and he probably had some more strong material to add to it or padd out a second disc... 1 a pop/rock album and the 2nd a soul/r&b/funk album. but then again, maybe he just happened to pick the 10 good songs this time and everything else was just dire. ...I also understood this way... But I quite agree Future Baby Mama has not its place here. And mr Goodnight, well, could have followed "Space" or "Pussy Control" in this era...

What do you think? Totally agree. The three middle tracks are b-side material. They interupt what could have been a stunning 10 track album. Interestingly enough, more than half the casual fans I know who got the album free with the newspaper say pretty much the same thing. They say they love the first 4 and then switch off. Unfortunately they don't switch back for for the last three tracks! .

Agreed, excpet for All the midnights and Future baby momma. Those are fine songs. I think The one u wanna c and mr.goodnight weaken the album. They have catchy melodies but don't blend in with the rest and have terrible lyrics.

I like FBM, but together with Mr. Goodnight, they just ruin the flow of the album and sound like they were shoe-horned in to get some R&B radio airplay.

I like Mr. Goodnight but loath FBM yet still agree. FBM= For all those who complain about folks wanting a Purple Rain 2 - this regurgitated song is for you. Space for sale...

I love FBM and Mr. Goodnight. Besides Somewhere Here on Earth, those are two of the best tracks.
This album seems to be "safe." He doesn't do any of his trademark screams and it seems like he's sacred to sing. PE is just Prince fucking around.

cha know, i don't hate the two songs but they are kinda filler fodder to me. they are ruined by subpar backing vocals by the twinz and an overall laziness in the arrangements. the songs could be great but in their current mode they are incomplete thoughts at best. Space for sale...
