Billboard's Guitar Single? Review

On the issue of August 25, 2007, Billboard Magazine reviews Prince's single "Guitar." Below is the review:

PRINCE
Prince is ready to rock and he's not holding back. On "Guitar," he unleashes his most electric single since "Purple Rain." Dumping R&B for blistering rock, the track marries an overdriven, early-U2 riff with grinding blues licks, a la Hendrix, as one wild solo chases another over crashing drums. "I love you baby, but not like I love my guitar," the maestro sings with a devilish smile as honeyed multitrack vocals pour some sugar over the raw mix. Pop and R&B radio may gasp at this electrifying, live-sounding guitar-hero workout, but it's unlikely anyone will resist its musical genius and sheer sonic power. —Sven Philipp

wow. that person is def. a fan of Prince. either hey REALLY REALLY likes the song, or he's over-sugar-coating it b/c he's a fan and doesn't want to write anything bad.

Indeed. "Guitar" is one of his worst singles.

I love Guitar. I can't see how anyone doesn't think it's a classic song. It's one of his best and most accessible in awhile.
