Yeah, but back then number 11 was moving as many units as top 5 now days, if not more in certain instances.

Great news! Glad the info I had was wrong!

It will be interesting to see what his next steps will be after London. If he does some perfomances on talk shows, releases a great video, and FBM continues to rise it will re-enter the top 10
The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.

"Future Baby Mama" is doing well on R&B radio,he should make a video and promote this song aggressively. He needs to build on the momentum of this song.

The thing that people dont really realize is that Prince is still selling how he usually sells, like i said if you take out Purple Rain,ATWIAD,Batman,D&P. Prince really has always sold to just his core following. The fact that he has sold close to 140,000 in 2 weeks with NO promotion,NO videos,NO tv shows,NO scandals, etc,,, at 49 years old, close to 30 years into a career IMPRESSES the hell out of me and the fact hes still here should be more of what people talk about.

Planet Earth Is Far from "FLOP" Sir!
Planet Earth has done very well "WORLD WIDE" and Prince has never been the Mega Seller. His albums moderately sell anywhere from 1-3million per album (back in the day), Prince's sells have declined because his promotional tools are not the same as these so-called teeny bop wannabe Prince, Madonna and Micheal Jackson manufactured dummies.

Prince is still very relevant in the game, he's done quite well for himself and it has nothing to do with age when it comes to sells.
"AGE" does matter when it comes to radio, they intentionally market their music (radio stations and record companies) to teens and females (18-24).

Most women within that age are more into the Ushers and Justins, Ciara's and Beyonce's. They don't wanna market Prince to this market now.

Thou Madonna had a hit record with Confessions, her airplay was almost non existant. LL Cool J didn't do well with airplay for his last two albums.

Thou women love him, the kids can't relate to him now a days, because he's older.

Their older and thats the game!

So with barely any airplay or videos out there to promote, this is pretty good for Prince.

The fact is, he now uses other means to promote and were not always gonna like it.

Prince is a genius and we all know this, he will continue to be popular on stage and his releases will be welcomed by us fans, who range in all ages.

Video networks will still cater to him, which is mainly how most of the kids knew about "3121's Black Sweat". Because they ran the video into the ground.

So I really don't remember a time where it was often that Prince sold over 150,00 units the first week. There were records that sold more like "Purple Rain, Batman, D&P, Sign o'times, Around the world in a day", but those are just a few releases. Every other record gradual sold a good deal and eventually made it to double/multi platinum status.

So FLOP my ass lol

:

she got the same audience in airplay with "hung up" as "call my name" did!

The new H100 rules almost make it impossible for her to have a hit( she sold 35k (on the peak week) downloads due to numerous remixes and in todays market sellin 35k isnt goin to do any good as part of chart position)

Lets not forget confession cost 30 times to make and market compared to planet earth

LL cool J can still get airplay because he caters to hiphop and i remeber in one interview he said his clothes r like his kids

kind of...he wasn't really happy with it and Bryant Gumbel asked him if he was disappointed...It was a expensive package so that could have been the reason but the brotha doesn't sell like he use to. I always watch the charts and hope he hits #1 but has there been a GREAT selling album since Diamonds and Pearls?

The thing is Prince with the exception of a few albums like Purple Rain,ATWIAD,D&p and Batman has never been a Huge Seller, or even a million seller. Hes been fairly consistent and him selling about 300-500,000 of each release is all thats gonna happen, we shouldnt expect more.

I think that's one of the few songs on the album that could become a hit.

Well, considering what is popular these days, you may be right! Funny that the worst songs on the album ("Guitar" and "Future Baby Mama") are likely to be the ones getting the most airplay.

Again,

He doesnt and most musicans dont make money on their cd sales. He was paid up front for the album because he does it all. They are just promoting it. He made his money already, now it is time to TOUR! Thats where musicans make their money.

The industry is different. But for a 49 year old to jump in there without much promotion and throw a monkey wrench in their "only promoting 4 arist of the moment".... Thats actually pretty good!

They do make money on CD sales...When you have Power like Prince you can get paid up front and can care less about the sales. Other artist get paid or try to on CD sales. This is where the point system comes in...remember TLC, New Edition, Tupac and a LOT of other performers get jacked and get paid very little because of bad contracts signed when tey were young and broke. This is where big lawyers come in...to help folks get paid. They do get paid off of CD's...
