Is Prince more popular than ever? Not in record sales, or course.
But -- in terms of concert tickets sold? And concert tickets than could be sold?

no, just confirmed which is different than popularity. he was most popular during the purple rain surge, easily top 3 in terms of pop artist. now he's confirmed which means that there are younger more popular more "now" celebs out there but many of them are starstruck by him, his being immortalized by the rock and roll hall of fame gave people permission to treat him as what he is a legend and a treasure.more than ever people are seeing through the past antics and image and recognizing him for his raw talent and incredible live presence. in a strange way he may even be a part of a fading breed in black music and people know it.i would say he's in a revered legend stage and with that comes a brand of popularity.

Accepted by whom? The general public? The definition for popular in Webster's is: Suitable to the means of the majority; indicative of the understanding and taste of the majority. It seems that's exactly where he is now. Even during the Purple Rain days he wasn't so accepted by the majority; e.g. I don't think he would have been ALLOWED to do the Superbowl back in '85; considered too rique. But, now he's accepted; hence suitable to the means of the majority. Ipso factor, you're saying he's more popular than ever.

It's just a fad during the tour. Remember Madonna's Re-Invention Tour? The media and public had a similar embracing atttitude towards that.
Prince's at that time in his career where he's been around long enough to reach that level of shallow, mass-acceptance. It doesn't mean scores of people are gonna flock to eBay to buy a mint copy of Exodus, it just means a few more Hits CDs sold.

HE USED 2 B THE REBEL....WTF HAPPENED? Prince stopped being a Rebel the moment his mug was all over MTV and in teenie bopper mags. I would argue that he was posing as a rebel in the early 80's and that he actually started a rebel once when he jumped off of WB's tit and started risking his career/wealth/fame to mess around with the establishment/record business--which he is STILL doing now. A "fad" that began back in 2004. Prince's at that time in his career where he's been around long enough to reach that level of shallow, mass-acceptance.
Can mass-acceptance be anything but shallow? Isn't that what the top 40 and mass appeal is all about? Purple Rain was a PRIME example of shallow mass acceptance. Look at the sales figures for 1999, Purple Rain, and Around the World in a Day. That speaks volumes about the inherent shallowness of mass acceptance. "New Power slide...."

Yes he is!!
Most in Music have a First Fame... But what do you do when They stop promoting you? Most disspear, Most just bitch and moan that they arent getting promoted the same. Prince at 49 and really since he was in his late 30's has stopped this from happening. He has jumped into the pop culture and still has been a major important figure. The Industry promotes usually a few new people, for a 49 year old to still be in that mix, thats huge! All because of his Work Ethic and well talent/skill!!! He is filling a void in Pop Music which is TALENT! Being a True Real Musican! But has the flare to interest the youth & public. Yes He is Bigger then Ever! Because you see what you can do after "They" move on.
