PrintableThis isn't normally a type of song I like but for some reason it just one of the first songs that clicked with me on the album.

It's just a bit of groove to it that I like. Agreed. It has a great groove and like the first five tracks the production really works. I instantly liked this one, though I confess I'm not sure what the "legs" on this one will be like. I may enjoy it years later or it may not wear well. It's basically a vampy groove, not that there's anything wrong with that, but it takes a pretty special groove to retain a real draw after years of listening. It probably helps that I haven't paid much attention to the lyrics besides "Chelsea Rodgers was a model"... everytime I listen closely to the lyrics of the verses, I find things to cringe at. Which is too bad, Prince was quite underrated as a writer during his heyday. Shoot, a song like "Wonderful Ass" was full of great, cheeky (sorry) humor that bordered on a sort of fascinating psychoanalysis of his relationships with women and his treatment of them as lovers/objects/mothers/etc. Now it's ham-handed proselytizing... Overall though, the song works for me. It's a long song but I think it's arranged well enough that it doesn't wear out its welcome too soon or anything. Ending is cool. brink | |

yeah a great track. fun fun fun. Agree that Prince could be mixed a little louder. at first thought that it needed a guitar solo at the end, but then we wouldn't have a great brass solo anywhere...

When I went to Panera's today, the girl who waited on me was named Chelsea (no, I am not making this up.  ). After she rung me up, I wanted to say to her, "Go on, Chelsea!", as Prince does in the song. But somehow, I don't think she would have gotten the joke. I don't actually like that picture of Chelsea Rodgers, it looks contrived and forced. All of the other images of her show her looking incredibly natural and beautiful - I'd much rather see that than a fashion photographer's idea of pretending to be sexy. I'm looking out for a purple dolphin. |
