Akhenaton was an 18th Dynasty Pharoah who created Monothesism by praying to the one god, The Aten or sundisk. His birth name was Tuthmosis III, and some beleive that he was where the story of Moses (Mosis) came from as he brought Monotheism (amid much adversity) to Egypt. He died and the Pantheon is reinstated under Tutankamun. The CD single artwork for "Peace" was a relief showing Akhenaton and his sundisk so I guess for whatever reason Prince identified with Akhenaton or how he stood for what he belived in and went against the status quo to embrace it. He has often alluded to Akhenaton over the last 10 years. In a side note to this, it may interest you to know that Akhenaton had himself represented in all statues and reliefs as being Androgynous. Oh! Well, I suppose that makes some kind of sense... There are also theories that Moses and Akhenaten were one and the same...http://www.amazon.co.uk/M...1591430046 Live 4 Love KFUNK [Edited 7/18/07 7:58am] We need 2 come 2gether, come 2gether as ONE

And he has had this astounding talent all his life, but we want him to be floored as well. We really donĀ“t like the idea that he could have it all."

How do P fans always find a way to hate on something. Seems to that they will never be satisfied. I'd bet if SOTT was realesed today people would be saying that Prince shouldn't have made it a double album, and that it would have been better with all of the throwaways cut out...

According to this thread, Chelsea Rodgers is a combination of a hundred different songs.
While it does share some of the elements of some of these songs, I think that it sounds a lot like that Chelsea Rodgers song. He is exactly who we thought he was

The thing is, and I know I'll get criticized for this, when we hear a new Prince song, we know it's Prince but it usually doesn't sound like anything else. I can't immerse myself in this new Prince track because I'm distracted by how much it sounds like someone else. While it does share some of the elements of some of these songs, I think that it sounds a lot like that Chelsea Rodgers song.

Nah. Most of the time I hear influences from other songs or artists in his work, but his songs usually still stand on their own as Prince compositions. Chelsea Rodgers is no exception to me. While the song itself is nothing truly original or unique musically, it is not a direct rip off of any one song. One of the things about it that does set it apart and makes it a true Prince song are the lyrics. A disco/funk song (yes it's funk) with lines like "Moses was a pharoah" and "Chelsea don't eat no meat" are what make this song a Prince song. You gotta love him. I do. He is exactly who we thought he was

I don't know--it's not *that* funky to me. Just IMO. I like this song from the middle to the end better than the beginning. I agree that Shelby doesn't sound very natural. . .she almost sounds like Mavis at times.

I actualy love the soulfulness of Shelby's co-vocals on this. She kinda makes the disco sound... authentic. Very Gloria Gayner like.

Yes it's my favourite song too!! It makes me dance, it's so funky and groovy! And there is a nice message in this song. Chelsea lives the life Prince had: Party all night long! But pleasure, fame and wealth it's like striving after the wind, it doesn't bring you happiness. This you find only with your higher self, when you are conscious of your spiritual need. And not in this 'Chelsea intellectuel, beauty and party world.' Make the most of it!
