Catchy and nice in it's way, but anyone who calls this "funk" don't know what funk is.
But the song can still include funk elements such as guitar parts and horn sextions, it really doesn't have to b by the book, especially if we're talkin' 'bout the big Purple here . And I can still feel funky when I hear it! N E 1 know if Chelsea Rodgers is a real model? Prince said the cut is "for Jersey" in the beginning, do we got any leads on that and what it may pertain 2 (other than the fact that he is talkin' bout the New Jersey)??? It's funky, great drums, bass, horns with a wonderful prince guitar riff. The bomb. I am listening to a 5 and a half minute version is this the one on the album?
The best prince track in ages? Don't think so. I could name it least 6 off of 3121 that were better. This is not even as funky as 3121. This song is average at best and sounds very discoish in the vein of evelyn champagne king's i don't know if it's right. IMO, I can't there are no really catchy songs off 3121 besides Black Sweat. That might explain why I have only listened to it 4 or 5 times. 'A pillow covered in all our tears'

this song has grown on me a lot, i dont really like Planet Earth as an album, but this is a fun funky track.
I also like the "JIMI" reference

The more I listen to the album, the more I find this rack feels out of place on it. It's easily the worst track on the album for me now and I find the flow of the album much better if I skip CR.
Somebody above mentioned The Word as being far better and they are absolutely right. I think I may burn myself a Planet Earth with The Word in place of CR. RIP

However "The Word" is too damn slow. Prince needs more uptempo jams on his albums and as far as disco goes, that's one of the best forms of music ever, right up there with funk. Funk, disco, and house music. It don't get no better than that. Andy is a four letter word.

Very disco-ish... but still funky. A lot of what was labled disco back in the day was simply more unptempo and danceable funk. Earth, Wind & Fire as well as Parliament/ Funkadelic amoung others made some very funky tracks which 'crossed over' to the disco scene as well. While it may sound out of place when compared to the other tracks on the album... CR is my fav. But that same 'out of place' lable could apply to a couple of tracks on the album. I love CR

I'm a lot further South than Chi-town, down in Jackson, Mississippi. I loved house music though. My first love was disco, then I got into funk, which was the closest sounding thing after disco's "death". When house music first came out, I immediately recognized it as being nothing more than a more modern reincarnation of disco, which was perfectly alright with me. Very disco-ish... but still funky. A lot of what was labled disco back in the day was simply more unptempo and danceable funk.
I have basically used those same exact words myself over the years to describe disco. I've always said that disco was nothing more than speeded up funk. . . [Edited 7/27/07 9:16am] Andy is a four letter word.

Yeah me too. The ultra catchy dance beat, funky ass bass line, tight horns, and on point vocals really become mundane after only a week of listening. What the fuck is wrong with you people? He is exactly who we thought he was

Best party song EVER! Disco's DNR has been recinded! Funk and killer horns put it over the top (not to mention the brilliant arrangement). I dare you NOT to dance to this masterpiece.
No song has ever made me more pissed that my CD player in my Jeep no longer FUNKtions!

A killer bass line like from "dirty mind". A horn section with a solo but reduced and supporting and not too prominent. A new interpretation of a funky guitar. A song and not only a jam. And fun.
This song is not continual old school. This is real modern funk!
