I love this track. The spoken word stuff is great, and like a lot of you have mentioned above, Prince saying "31-21" is VERY interesting. It isn't like him, (as far as I know) to reference a past work, on a new project.
Damn this track is good. I love it. LOOOOOVE IT. One of my favorites on the album.

This would have been the start of Side B on a cassette or record, but this segues directly out of "Future Baby Mama"

I like it it's sexy with a hold your drink in the air while dancing side to side

Good mid tempo groove with clever and amusing lyrics, (we get it P, you're wealthy and your (ahem) is gold plated... But I am imagining a well intentioned Prince with a mouth full of rasinettes, I like that. Nice Backing vocals. A little spanish man??? Prince, you's a mess! its still sucks... I'm lovin' the song until the rap/spoken word.....whateva starts.... I want to like this song.....

He arrived just after Mr. Goodnight had started, walked in and asked who it was. I told him it was Prince and he said it was really good. He doesn't normally go much for my Prince stuff.
I actually quite like this one too, it's smooth and mellow. Works much better for me than somewhere here on earth. RIP

you guys are clinging to this "spoken word" nonsense as if it somehow makes the song any better.
To review: Strange but True, All the Critics Love in NY, Bob George, Scarlet Pussy, Papa, The War and Im sure there are others, have elements of spoken word Mr. Goodnight just sounds like your generic hip hop track circa 1995.

For me, the song is okay but nothing special.I'm not hating on it, it's just a mid tempo filler for me. 6/10 " A mind changed against its will, is of the same opinion still"

Got half way through this 'song' and gave up on the album. I may try the album again later, but on first play so far it sounds like the worst album he's ever done, and that's a hell of an accomplishment.
I'm off to play the Grinderman album very loud on the headphones in attempt to get the syrup out of my ears. I also need to forget that I actually bought the Mail on Sunday (shudder!) Hopefully I will return to Planet Earth in the near future and find it's not quite as bland and poorly written as I perceive it to be right now.

Don't know what all the hate is about and why it isn't directed at Guitar instead.
This is sexy. I think with a really stylish video it could do well. It's not like Prince LOOKS like a 49 year old trying to rap. He could easily pull this off as a single. The "convene in the pool" line is lovelovelove this song.

yup, he's well out on the pull now that he's single. an inspiration to all the alonely bods out there...

this song really ruins the flow of the album. not a terrible song, but its far from quality. this really should have been left on a b side. its like prince was listening to biggie's one more chance on the radio somewhere, got bored and said yeah i could do that. i've been a hip hop head for the longest time, and i really don't need prince reminding me how bad and cliche hip hop has become. i've said it before and i'll say it again. prince is more hip hop when he's not trying to be hip hop. this wouldn't even pass for spoken word.

IMO This song will go down as the song that is the biggest grower on this CD
I now have a new appreciation for it now that I am now 7 days in of this entire CD experience...and I'm still listening 2 the crappy version! The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.
Remember there is only one destination and that place is U All of it. Everything. Is U.

I really like this one. I'm so glad I typically pay no attention to the 'I hate everything Prince does with an R&B groove' crowd. This is one of my favs on the album.
Its different from Incense & Candles (which I really liked)... but it taps me in the same vien.

Definitely the surprise of the album - After so many "meh" reports on this one, I was shocked by how much I loved it.
Reminds me of the strongest cuts on Emancipation fused with the futuristic sexiness of Strange But True from Rave. Fantastic stuff. I've seen the future, and boy it's rough...

Fun, laidback and soulful with a very strong chorus.
