How little exactly is the "little Spanish man" for Prince to be calling him little?

I love this track. The spoken word stuff is great, and like a lot of you have mentioned above, Prince saying "31-21" is VERY interesting. It isn't like him, (as far as I know) to reference a past work, on a new project.

Damn this track is good. I love it. LOOOOOVE IT. One of my favorites on the album.

..actually, you're right...I did like how he fit that in...

Got half way through this 'song' and gave up on the album. I may try the album again later, but on first play so far it sounds like the worst album he's ever done, and that's a hell of an accomplishment.

I'm off to play the Grinderman album very loud on the headphones in attempt to get the syrup out of my ears. I also need to forget that I actually bought the Mail on Sunday (shudder!)

Hopefully I will return to Planet Earth in the near future and find it's not quite as bland and poorly written as I perceive it to be right now.

You know, this also sums up my experience. I bought PE yesterday and put it on my iPod...got in bed late and started to listen...I couldn't remember which song was last...as Revelation played I kept debating as to whether I should turn it off...I was actually hoping that was the last song...I didn't feel like this after listening to 3121..I think I played that everyday for weeks...oh well, maybe after another couple listens...

man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

Lol...I do, but it's usually classic rock and old school R&B...so the statement is still true...

Just to satisfy my curiosity, what about the song is so "dumb".

I mean sure it's not a poetic work of art, but I think most people understand that this is a fun little song not to be taken seriously at all.

Just the fact that a 50 year old man, who wears high heels and eyeliner, takes on the role of a pimp, is enough to get a good laugh out of. And the song has a nice, catchy little melody, with a laid back groove.

Lighten up a little and don't over anaylze everything dude.

the smooth rappin in Mr Goodnight remind me of Muse 2 The Pharaoh which is enough 4 me to like it. to make it even better, it's a decent song in its own right. not excellent, not even very good, just ok.

Prince is not a lyricist. But here he´s not too bad because he don´t try to indoctrinate. The lyrics are just ironic and amusing.
The music is technical well done but not more than a finger exercise.

The very first thing I thought of when I heard this song was "Incense and Candles". I hated that song and I hate this one too. Both songs are something that sounds radio friendly and I absolutely hate the shit that's all over the radio today.

The best thing about it is there is only one song that sounds like it on the album. Prince really should practice what he preaches when he downs today's artists and put NO radio friendly songs on his albums.

nod

Yeah, I just can't stand this kind of modern-commercial R&B that Prince has been doing since the NPS album, I just don't like it confused

- The same thing happened to me. When I listened to The Rainbow Children for the first time, I was using earphones and it was almost midnight. I got so excited I couldn´t sleep. I repeated the experience with PE, but the magic didnt happen this time. It was cool, yes, but for the first time I wasn´t really excited with no song. Even on 3121 I remember I loved ´The Word´. But on the other hand, PE doesn´t have a song that I hate. I liked the live band feel and no embarassing/very bad songs like ´Life O the party´.

About ´Mr Goodnight´, I thought it would be one of these ´Wedding Feast/Life O the party´ songs but I liked it more than I thought. Must be because I kinda like this smooth rap. Reminds me of a Notorious Big song "One more chance".

I think it's the best rapping Prince has ever done, but the storyline.
He see a woman in a courtyard and promises her the car of her dreams if see flys off to an unknown luxury destination for sex.

The poor guy has to buy it.
That's sad.
