This song is like the spoon your mama let you lick, after making the cake frosting. Lovely, reflective, complex, pure beauty.
All you others say Hell Yea!! woot!

I didn't care much for this song but in the last week it's been the first song I play off the album. Plus, I heard the song on the radio here in NYC eek . It was on WBLS and it was the one of the few good things that happened that day, it was last Wednesday with the storm that hit NYC and killed the subways. I still hate the title but I really dig this song now.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

it's what Prince wants from a woman, or what he thinks women should be about. queens who eventually become mothers, instead of hoes allowing themselves to be used and abused.

appreciation of each other (couples) > monogamy and trust is what i'm talkin' bout.

That was very enjoyable to read...But did ya notice historically,
that society has fallen apart because the mama's didn't let the daddy's prance around making money while mama's raise the babies and lingere up for dinnertime?

thumbs up!

It's a good song.

I could be wrong. It seems there are some lyrics on this cd that are in conflict with his beliefs. I like it,don't get me wrong. There are some jugestion to sex before marriage. he sounds so lonely and sad.He looks like he lost a lot of weight.

For everyone who loves Prince no matter if he's right or wrong, doesn't have to go on reading. For the ones who don't mind me criticizing him, continue!

While I like the melody of FBM, I am thoroughly disgusted with the lyrics.
Does anybody remember the song "Let's have a baby" from the Emancipation album, where our man is trying very hard to convince Mayte, that she is the only woman on this planet, that would qualify as his future-baby-mama?
What was he thinking when he wrote his new song. Did he forget that he had a baby, as well as a baby-mama? Now all of a sudden all his former lovers weren't ggod enough to have his baby and fooled him 4 a minute. Like Mr. Innocent had nothing to do with the break-ups.
According to Mr. Goodnight his next baby-mama has to put up with his crap, in order to keep him.(gotta bend with the wind but don't break)
And if she's a good girl, he takes her to Paris, London, Africa, San Lucas, and Mexico.
I bet, that will make up for all his shortcomings (no pun intended!)
Then he goes on bragging how "all his future-baby-mama's girlfriends will hate her, cuz they can't have her man." Where does he get the nerve to call himself a man? How can somebody at the age of almost 50 come up with such immature and callous lyrics? It must be very hurtful for Mayte to hear this song.
Thank God, she's no longer with a self-centered, heartless prick(who claims that he believes in God and gives out bibles at his shows.)
For somebody who claims to know "the truth", he sure doesn't act like it.
How sad!

i thought the same thing about the dissing of mayte in this song ..read my response somewhere up ^

Honestly...The Vow...In Sickness and in Health...Is highly misunderstood by at least one person at the alter if the marriage ends.

This song is no doubt very personal. You dont write stuff for the fun of it. When you get past the surface, it is kind of sad, I never noticed that. thank you for pointing that out.

So because a word/phrase is "already popular English term" it can't be offensive? So any number of deroguatory words like b*tch, n*gg*, sp*c, etc shouldn't be considered offensive b/c they are already popular English terms? I already explained earlier on this thread the many reasons why I feel the term is offensive. The phrase is imbued with meanings that cannot be changed regardless of what Prince meant or may have meant by tacking "future" in front of it. In fact, I'm disappointed that he used the phrase at all b/c I'm sure he's smart enough to know the connotations affiliated with it and he still used it.

I agree that hip-hop/rap lyrics are worse, but where do you think the phrase 'baby mama' came from? While I'm not 100% certain, I'd guess it started in the hip-hop/rap world that you cite as example of more offensive terms. So that says what?

That hip-hop is full of offensive language?

Baby mama (also baby-mama and baby-mother) is an African-American Vernacular English term used to describe a mother who is not married to her child's father. The term is included in the Oxford English Dictionary as baby-mama, where it is defined as, "the mother of a man's child, who is not his wife or (in most cases) his current or exclusive partner".

The term originated in Jamaican Creole as baby-mother (pronounced "biebi madda"), with the first printed usage appearing in the Kingston newspaper the the Daily Gleaner in 1966.[1][2] Another Daily Gleaner use dates from November 21, 1989.[2] Peter L. Patrick, a linguistics professor who studies Jamaican English, has said of the terms baby-mother and baby-father, "[they] definitely imply there is not a marriage—not even a common-law marriage, but rather that the child is an 'outside' child".

Baby-mother and baby-mama had entered wide use in American hip-hop lyrics by the mid-1990s.[1] The Outkast song "Ms. Jackson", released in 2000, was dedicated to "all the baby mamas' mamas". American Idol winner Fantasia Barrino released a song entitled "Baby Mama" in 2004. Prince's 2007 CD Release "Planet Earth" features the song "Future Baby Mama" that rose quickly on the R&B charts.

Originally, the term was used by the fathers of children born out of wedlock to describe the mothers of their children, but the term is now in general use to describe any single mother. However, since entering currency in U.S. tabloids, the terms baby-mama and baby-daddy have even begun to be applied to married and engaged celebrities.[1]

Thank You! I've been scratching my head, as I've heard this term before and was not clear about the exact meaning. I knew Prince hadn't coined it.

THEY WERE COOL BUT SOMETHING WASN’T RIGHT
THEY HAD ME FOOLED 4 A MINUTE

(CHORUS:)

2 B A FUTURE BABY MAMA
GOTTA BEND IN THE WIND BUT DON’T BREAK
2 KEEP UR MAN
SHOW ME ONE OF THEM AND I’LL MAKE HER MINE
WITH NO MORE DRAMA
FUTURE BABY MAMA
I’VE HEARD IT SAID THAT I WON’T TREAT U RIGHT
BUT THEY AIN’T SURE ‘CUZ THEY DON’T KNOW
NOTHING ABOUT U
U’RE 2 SECURE 2 EVER WANNA FUSS AND FIGHT
THAT’S Y UR MAN NEVER GOT A REASON 2 DOUBT U, OOH
(CHORUS)
YEAH, I KNOW U MIGHT B FINE
BUT I’VE SEEN IT ALL B4
CINDERELLA WAS A WASTE OF TIME THEN OOPS,
SHE’S OUT THE DOOR
2 BUILD A HOUSE 2GETHER,
THE THING THAT MATTERS MOST
IS UNDER THE FLOOR...
A STRONG FOUNDATION LASTS 4EVER MORE
I’M GONNA MAKE U HAPPY BABY
HAPPIER THAN HAPPY ITSELF
KNOW WHAT? IF U EVER NEED A HAND,
CALL ME, I’LL HELP
‘CUZ I GOT U, WHEREVER U WANNA GO
PARIS, LONDON, AFRICA, SAN LUCAS, MEXICO. U C,
I KNOW WHAT U WANT... WHAT EVERY GOOD WOMAN WANTS:
A MAN SO IN LOVE WITH U
THAT HE CAN’T HELP BUT FLAUNT U
DEEP DOWN I KNOW WHAT U WANT
U WANT UR GIRLFRIENDS 2 HATE U
‘CUZ THEY CAN’T GET UR MAN

Twinkly1

This song caught my attention immediately. I love it. It captures the imagination, the sub-text is convincing--the melody has a nice flow--peaks an valleys with a pinnacle (or climax).

Also, isn't the title Future baby, "MAMA" as in Mamasita; not "Future baby mama" as in baby mama drama? Just a thought. batting eyes

It actually is incredible how well everything flows together in this track.
I had my problems with some Musicology and 3121 ballads, like Call My name, On the couch, Satisfied.. they just didn't satisfy me vocally and musically.
This is so slick, so groovy, lovely subtle vocals. I'm hooked on FBM.

Wrong thread but: i sense the same 'everything fits'-vibe on many Planet Earth tracks. Even on All the midnights and Mr Goodnight.

Future Baby Momma makes me smile. The music on Planet Earth, P's voice and the lyrics on the entire album CD seems to reveal a much deeper and edutainment side of our Prince. Got's to love how it works! Just my twocents haah.
