The lyrics are actually good, and the track is immaculate. i think thats what it is for me other than that I love the song. Rhythm floods my heart♥The melody it feeds my soul

I don't DIG the track per say...but what I like is that he took what is normally a dergotory term and spun it around. It seems a good situation is never explored in the same sentence that the words "baby mama" appear. This is not that...he made a baby mama sound like a good thing....

SEXY as hell!
Most single worthy song on the album. Would LOVE to see this live. I believe too that "i heard it said my lovers look alike" is a reference to the org

I gonna do somebody while this plays in the background real soon

this is the most like 80's Prince both lyrically and sonically in long long time. I really like this as its seems nostalgic, especially on one of the most non-prince-like albums he has ever put out. My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

A slow jam that wouldn't be out of place on 'Sign 'O' Times'.
The best re-use of the Linn Drum since the 80's hands down!

Man, this song sounds great in CD quality, much improved from even the radio version. Great stuff. "Don't you think one of the charms of marriage is that it makes deception a necessity for both parties?"

There is noting in this track which is either original nor engaging. Completely forgettable.

Okay, I must have a different version that the rest of ya'll, because nobody else has mentioned this. At the beginning and end of this song, there is a DJ and some chick on there talking. Just quit blabbering and get to the damn song already!!!!!
This song has a "Do Me Baby" vibe to it, I like it. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

I like it better than "girl" the b-side. I never liked that one. FutureBabyMama sounds kind of like Lovesexy/Batman era stuff both musically and lyrically (like what he did for Sheena and Madonna around that time) My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

Easily the worst on the album. Lyrically it's just plain sad. Totally agree. Cannot even stand to listen to it. I completely disagree. He *tried* to put a more positive spin on the term, but I think it still fails. Here is something I originally posted on HQ explaining why I dislike the song/lyrics: Personally I find the term "baby mama" fairly degrading & disrespectful to woman in that:
2. Being a "baby mama" implies that there is no intent from the male to get married or even necessarily support the woman or child (which leads me back to #1). This point could also be discussed in relation to the larger problem (especially within the African-American community where this term is often used), of men having babies with several different women (or several babies with one woman) and not supporting them--whether that be financial, emotional, taking care of the kids, etc. The women are simply the "baby mama," nothing more. (This could also lead into a discussion of why/if women feel the need for an 'emotional' attachment more than men but that's an entirely different forum.) 3. I think it's a little like when he had Tony M. rapping all over D&P: instead of creating his own catch phrase (which we all know he is capable of), he is borrowing from the mainstream vernacular and it just sounds desperate. 4. Finally, I'm disappointed that Prince resorted to using a term with these connotations--even if he's trying to spin it that the women in the song aren't even good enough to be his baby mama. (Being someone's "baby mama" really isn't something I'd want to aspire to--see points #1 & 2.) What happened to: Hooker, bitch and ho, I don't think so I only knew one and never told her though I thought about it many times (Diss me?) .... A woman every day should be thanked Not disrespected , not raped or spanked? 5. Post script: Even though this isn't directly about the term "baby mama" I also dislike the part of the chorus that talks about bending instead of breaking to keep a man. You cannot "keep" (possess) a person, they have free will; and while I know it's meant to imply that bending actually takes more strength I feel it insinuates that "future baby mamas" might want to compromise (e.g. "bend") their values to get/keep a man in the hopes of being his baby mama. (See again points #1 & 2.) I'm sure I'll get told that I'm reading waaayyy too much into it, over-analyzing, etc. but those are the reasons (as a woman, a feminist, and a Prince fan) why I think it's an awful phrase. (Disclaimer, I'm also trained as an art historian so I automatically like to look for hidden meanings in everything, even if it seems innocuous on the surface. Occupational hazard. )

(Disclaimer, I'm also trained as an art historian so I automatically like to look for hidden meanings in everything, even if it seems innocuous on the surface. Occupational hazard. ) i beg to differ. THe term is usually used a la cart...ie not including the future part. Implying that the person was a phase and is only fufilling a role at this poin. The word Prince added, future, implies thought, consideration, and planning. And there's only positive things said about this hypothetical person. How it could offend someone looking into a long term relationship, i don't know. A future baby mama is a coveted position, in the eyes of a male, the mother of the greatest gifts of your life....and someone U don't want to go away, espicially if U've already outlined all of these positive qualities about her. edit:...and doesn't everyone comprimise things in a relationship...that's what makes them valuable...the things u've sacraficed to get the other things u need more....and while U don't "keep" people, I think the term is used her in a relative manner. If U've invested time and love and soul into a person...u don't want them and their free will to take off on you, you want to "keep" it, it's valuable and is important. chill out a bit...try not to take words so literally, espicially in art...they r loosly used at times, begging for interpretation, not to be used at face value. Title actually works, the way he treats it. Nothin' wrong with a slow jam from Prince. "He's a musician's musician..."

FUTURE BABY MAMA
I love the new Prince song ,Future Baby Mama it is a really nice song. Have any one else notice that song sounds so much like I Hate U? At least its a great song, i just the hope the rest of the album is good. 3121 was cool except for that horrible 80s throwback track Lolita. That track must have been in the vault.
