Absolutely love this.
I think it sounds a bit Bowie. Great song all the same! http://www.myspace.com/savage1999uk

Wall said: Could have taken a bit more time on the lyrics -- though not as tragic as Guitrar -- and edited some of the meandering middle out but great solo, if a bit bombastic.
I love the guitar in the end, gives a PR feel. By the way no Manilow or Sailing(sorry). Lemme

Cool song. LOVE the fact that P's using "live" drums on this song. The intro and the melody during the verse reminds me of "A Better Place To Die". Cool but typical guitar solo by P. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

This piece gives me a sense of vertigo, as if I am actually floating above the earth. I can't imagine this message being conveyed with any more power.
Thank you Prince (wipes a tear). "so glam, it's absurd"

I wish it would grab me this way but I think it's a pretty average track.
Respectably ambitious but still similar yet not as cool as "empty room" Should of been at the end of the album, but then what would be done with "Resolution". Whatever, I'm happy with the album as a whole, it's far better than the sugary "3121" small circles, big wheels!
I've got a pretty firm grip on the obvious!

Best on the album.
Best Prince song since 1993.

Yeah it's a bit strange as the opening track, in fact the whole album is quite the mish mash of styles. I do yearn for the consistency of albums like parade and Around the World' but I guess we have to enjoy concepts in smaller bite size chunks these days. The Rainbow Children was the closest we got recently to a concept album. "so glam, it's absurd"

Of course its a good track. The solo
sounds too close to the Empty Room solo from the soundcheck download version.

It is absolutely MANDATORY that U listen 2 this, and the rest of the album on CD (CD quality).
The song "Planet Earth" is as Prince as U can get. This is the best epic/rock opera/gospel of Prince he's ever done. From the 5:00 mark on, it could be repeated infinitely, and I'd never get tired of it. Has anyone noticed at around 5:14, the screams R IDENTICAL 2 the screams in "Something In The Water (Does Not Compute)"?? ~G~ "He's a musician's musician..."

It goes into another gear there. What's even more interesting is listening to all layers that are incorporated here. IMO, the scream could be punched, or could be P being nostalgic in that sense. Either way, the more you listen, the more you can hear. For that group that gets the chance to hear this Live for the first time in all it's glory are probably in for a treat. I find it VERY hard to get past track 1. But "Guitar" is another track to put your ears on so after about 10 replays of 1, 2 is a bit easier to slide into. Just my .02 [Edited 7/23/07 7:45am]

I was lucky to have a friend at Sony/BMG who gave me a copy of the album on Thursday...
This track completely blew my mind at first listen..it's bombastic Prince at his very best...really make me giddy inside. And to hear Wendy & Lisa in the background was great as well.... I am loving this album more than any other he's done in some time! Every minute of last night is on my face today....

It's not too Manilow-ish. The chord changes and everything are good but he could use somebody like Bruce Swedien to mix and engineer his music.
You can hear it well on headphones but some tracks need that sheen and some parts need to be brought up and down. Compare (Sonically) this to "Earth Song" as far as the mix. This track, Resolution, FBM and Guitar are my favorites on the CD. OK, Mods. If you prefer how about a thread on HOW WOULD YOU RESEQUENCE THE TRACKS ON PLANET EARTH? {Apparently} [Edited 7/23/07 16:16pm] "The first time I saw the cover of Dirty Mind in the early 80s I thought, 'Is this some drag queen ripping on Freddie Prinze?'" - Some guy on The Gear Page

Lots of us have been listening in CD quality for at least a week now... Anyhoo, everything about this track is outstanding. This is the Prince I love like no other. He's crafted an epic rock anthem for the ages here and I hope it gets the recognition it deserves. Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

People need to recognize that this album is mixed and mastered to sound noisy and warm, not with the usual clarity that each intsrument and vocal usually has on a Prince album. The mixing is completely retro 80's (including the effects on the guitar)
It's so different in tone then anything he's put together before. The lyrics and melodies are also simple and seductive/commenting in a "safe" easy way. He's aiming at a low common denominator here... it's very cohesive, and very much the "cream" as opposed to the "coffee" he usually delivers. I swear, he has made the perfect summer album for all the innocent housewives of Earth. My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

once I read the lyrics the song is much more dramatic because it makes me think of the end of the world and a reckoning rather than some green conservation ethic. My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

OK, I just got the CD today, so today was my first full-on listen after hearing snippets online for the last week or so.
This track is phenomenal. Fantastic. After the parts I'd heard online, I had been thinking of this as a cross between Empty Room, Strays Of The World and She Gave Her Angels. It was only seeing the credits that I realised why - Michael B and Sonny T - this is absolutely the track they are on. Two albums in a row the killer title track features Michael B and Sonny T. I have to wonder if those sessions in 2005/2006 have given him title tracks for the next 15 years Man, I love Michael and Sonny...

I love it! I too have always been a sucker for these type of "anthem" Prince songs...
My only complaint is the lyrics. Prince needs to read another book besides The Bible... "...literal people are scary, man literal people scare me out there trying to rid the world of its poetry while getting it wrong fundamentally down at the church of "look, it says right here, see!" - ani difranco

I love this song!! Absolutlely brilliant! I love how over the top it is and its just the kind of song I always want Prince to open an album with, ala Thunder.
This is my favorite song off the album so far If you will, so will I
