Yeah, Planet Earth has a little too much 'Sacrifice of Victor' for me. On a sidebar, his song Guitar sounds very similar to his 06' hit Fury. And another of his P.E. hits reminds me of his 95' hit Dolphin.

The track is growing on me, but is it just me, the vocals on the choruses are soooo low in the mix. i've played it on several different speakers. for example... careful now the next one might be ..... and the "you" just gets drowned....

Could it be time for Prince to allow another talent to come in an produce his material?I think so.

I couldn't agree more! His live stuff rocks, I don't know what is going on in that studio. It's like two differen't songs. Changes the key, tempo, instrument levels..... they sound great. I always have the feeling he is depressed when he is making the final edits.
Life without music..... why?

Anxiety

this is one of three tracks that i'm liking from this album so far.

it starts out a little weak, and the cracky-croaky-yodelly vocals get tired REAL fast, but when the crunch of the song kicks in, all is forgiven.

the guitar solo on this song is what i've been waiting to hear on a new prince studio album since 'rainbow children'.

the little bossa nova break thingie is the most innovative thing i've heard in a prince song in a long, long time. i guess i can understand the "can this be the magic" shrug-off comments, but i don't hear it. in fact, the electrified bossa break reminds me more than a bit of stereolab circa "dots and loops".

i'm not hearing the "something in the water" scream sample at the end, either, but i'm glad it was pointed out because i hadn't picked out the screams during that solo and it just enhanced the energy all over again. i can see how someone would THINK those were sampled screams, and they may well be...but i don't think they are.

yeah, this song is cheesy and gooey and at one point i was reminded just a little of "wedding feast" boxed ; but i went into this album expecting a sub-3121 experience (i thought the last album was two notches above "meh") and it started off with a song that sounded like prince having fun in the studio...for that kind of spirit, i can forgive the unnecessary frills and curlyques. it IS prince, after all...

His vocals are kinda low in the mix for most of the song...not a fatal flaw but he coulda pumped up the screams a tad just to give me double chills. biggrin
Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

So far this is my favorite song on the cd! Is it me or does it sound like Christian rock? My friend loves it and normally he HATES, I mean HATES (he professes it to everyone) Prince.

Although I love some parts of the song it's a bit confusing to me because of several things:

- the idea of the bridge is great but it would've been better with a totally original melody, plus those synth horns are just totally laughable and wrong.
- I feel it isn't an opening track at all
- the piano sound is too 'steril' to me, it feels like somebody's putted on the laboratory effect... lol
- it reminds me too much of Empty Room too

Once Prince told Weny & Lisa that they should better have a real opener on their albums - this time he failed himself.

The idea of starting the album with a piano is fine but somehow I did´nt like the sound - now I know why, you´re right it´s too steril. This and the synth horns sounding like played on a "Bontempi" (at least in Germany a well known `keybord´ for childs).

Anyhow for me not a bad song. But if it would come from another artist I would not give him the chance to grow.

Planet Earth, the song, is the SHIT! I love how epic the song is. It's like I'm going through a musical odyseey. I will say, it reminds me of songs from the past like Crystal Ball and All My Dreams. Great song.

Prince needed to chime in on the environmental debate about the damage mankind is doing to G*d's creation and to show that he's not out of touch with reality. In that sense it's another Sign o' the Times, though not as great or haunting. It's still a nice song and I loved that he opened the album with it.

Personally, "Planet Earth" is my favorite track right now. I think the composition is extraordinary. I love the break in the middle and how he uses voices (his and others) mixed well with the music and the ending is fantastic. He did a great job of producing the track. The lyrics are thought provoking and so right on as Prince is still the master of the double entendre. I would put the single "Planet Earth" right up there as one of the best tracks that he's made. I LOVE THAT SONG!

I think the CD "Planet Earth" is much better than 3121 (probably on the same lines of "Musicology" and "Gold Experience").
Get the funk up!

Planet Earth is a great CD the Problem is the Track sequence is wrong.
Guitar should be the 1st song and Planet Earth the last as well as Somewhere here on Earth. I rearranged the track sequence and this Cd sounds better with the slow tracks at the end.

Planet Earth IS a Beautiful Mess!
It's muddled confusing and noisy but very ambitious
and I love it!

Wish he added some more layered vocals during the climax such like in Joy in Repetition.
As I listed to this over and over, I couldn't put my finger on which
Song this already was and now I know, it's When I lay my hands on you!

This could have been his "Hey Jude" !
I still like this very much and have to put it on the classic list along with Somewhere here on Earth

PRINCE IS BACK!
WISH B-SIDE were Still popular!

We all want a big hit again because
we want to relive the Hysteria & Pandemonium we experienced
when Purple Rain was Hot. Actually, he doesn't care if it happens again or not.
