Quite possibly one of the greatest tracks Prince has produced in almost 20 years.....honestly, like the album as a whole I am feeling this track so much more than Musicology or 3121, its like Prince has found his muse once again. I have not had such a wide grin on my face for a while. biggrin

What I love about this track is the approach to the verses in the sheer epic quality...to lead into such an infectiously groovy track as Guitar is just perfect. (And incidentally that track does all the thinks to me that Fury should have....the air guitar was in full effect).

Onto 6th listen.....

I love it.

I keep wondering about the bridge and the intention there. Was it meant to be Could It Be Magic? Well if you could hold planet earth in the palm of your hand, it would be magic.
RIP sad

On first listen, this track kinda slipped past me without grabbing me much at all. I've since listened to it 3 or 4 times with the headphones on and it's a grower. At this time i'd probably give it a 7/10 as a song.

I too hear Empty Room...not that that's a bad thing. I think this song would be better placed at the end of the album. I enjoyed how 3121 started it's namesake and feel Chelsea Rodgers would be a better hook for those individuals who open their paper to find a "mystery" cd drop out of it. PE is one of the better songs on the album

Sadly, I don't have moonbeam levels.

I don't dislike the song. I like the crazy ending.

The state of the planet does concern me, and at times depresses me sad
Prince singing cute 'n' sexy about this deadly serious issue irritates my sense of good taste.

Lion of Judah. I can love easily. Aggressive and vulnerable always fascinates. smile

Whatever P sings about, he usually gets stuck with this sexually charged voice.
The voice goes with the look. how does he look?

For this reason he works better with sexually charged songs (love songs whatever you want to call 'em)

His royal sexiness is out of place when he sings about such an important issue as the plight of Earth.
I saw him once in concert in Germany, he pretty much stopped the show to hold a ridiculous monologue about world politics.
He set about this political monologue with the usual messianic pomp, tryin to sound serious. The audience were confused and checking each other, not sure how this message was meant to be taken. I was thinking that he can get away with this nonsense in America but here the people are, generally speaking, not half as ignorant as the average american is. I had to laugh. lol

Serious issues are not his thing as a singer.

I loive starting this CD cause this is the 1st track and its a topical and touching song

Also, the more I think about it...the similarity 2 Barry Manilow during the (bad-ass) break is intentional

Much of this album is a very controlled, simple, live, old school rock/pop, arrangements and mixes.... and this title track fulfills that stylistic directive.

What a 'big' tune - another of my 'first' favourites! Some reason reminds me of Pink Floyd....

Best song on the album.

By the way... listen 2 the 2 screams buried in the mix at around 5:15, during the guitar lettin' loose...

Sound familiar?

Excellent tune, will be great live. B4 I heard this the general review seemed to suggest that this was a little cheesy....so what is actually cheesy about it????

It's cheesy in the sense that this is the classic Prince song ... if you're familiar with Prince's body of work, this tune is immediatelly recognizable, and pretty much you can predict every twist and turn before it happens.

Think of "Something in the Water Does Not Compute"...

So exact, it's like he sampled the original screams.

My favourite on the album. Loved it from the first play. It's the feeling I get when I hear it - what all of the music does to me. It's an alive track. It's more than a song - it's an important radical message. Profound, inspired and that guitar solo at the end - OMFG.

5 stars out of 5.
