But I'm sure I remember at the time it got a pretty mixed reception, and many saw it as the start of the decline that, for many, went into the 90s. Only in America. LoveSexy was extremely sucessfull in Europe

Sidenote, was Planet Earth released in Italy today? Anyone know? I thought I read that somewhere around here. Fantasy is reality in the world today. But I'll keep hangin in there, that is the only way.

The mix is really nice, the sound warm. And where as he tried to cram too many sounds onto records/songs in the most recent past (let's say the last 10 years), he doesn't go overboard on this one. Me likey likey. It is GREAT GREAT GREAT to hear him use female backing singers again; female voices compliment his voice so well... So you've heard the REAL version? If so, does it sound way different? Here in the states so we won't know for awhile now. I guess that would be the giveaway eh? OK quick assesment of PE. After 4 or 5 listens (low-fi v.), I will say I do like it. I think alot. I hear new stuff each time I listen. That's always a good thing. Groundbreaking, nope. At this point doesn't need to be. Good/Great, I think so. I think it has a very bold sound. Not contrived. It sounds relaxed but not lazy. And, at times, it's very dramatic. Also digging the quirkyness. Will it be a big "hit". Prolly not. Doesn't need to be. With all the publicity, iit's kinda already is. And alot of people will get to hear it, if they so choose. And at this point, that's really what matters. IMO. Tastes will always vary, but at least let folks have the chance to taste. Fantasy is reality in the world today. But I'll keep hangin in there, that is the only way.

And yes, the sound is amazing, like I said; warm and layered, but not overly so.

I must admit that your entire post is right, but this part is interesting to me even more; this is the second time Prince pulls a give-away stunt to have his album publisized. I must admit that I miss the days where his albums were anticipated cuz the music was so groundbreaking. Times have changed indeed.

After a few listens:
1. Planet Earth- Awesome powerful song, cool breakdown. 2. Guitar- Always liked it. 3. Somewhere here on earth- Very nice ballad. Great falsetto. 4. The one u wanna see- Very infectious, love it. 5. Future Baby Mama- Boring 6. Mr. Goodnight- Very smooth, I actually like it. Keep rappin' P! 7. All the midnights in the world- Boring 8. Chelsea Rogers- could of been great, but the lady singing with Prince ruins the song for me. 9. Lion of Judah- Awesome song. Great guitar work. Powerful. 10. Revelation- OK, nice guitar, but not really too special. 6.5 out of 10. [Edited 7/14/07 1:27am]

I guess whatever it takes these days. He is groundbreaking via marketing and publicity, just not musically. Still dig the new album and it will be a whole new experience when I get to hear the proper version. Fantasy is reality in the world today. But I'll keep hangin in there, that is the only way.

Does anyone else hear a computer click (like the sound a computer makes when you perform a clicking function in a program) in the first 10 seconds or so of the Planet Earth track?
I'm thinking it's just on the poorer quality rips?

It's a case of the fruit not falling far from the tree
The album is sweet but far too short! [Edited 7/14/07 10:25am] small circles, big wheels!
I've got a pretty firm grip on the obvious!

I'm thinking it's just on the poorer quality rips? I've heard that from the first time, I think somebody recorded a stream from their computer speakers, with a cheap recording device, and that sound came from them clicking on something. I Love U, But I Don't Trust U Anymore...

I have downloaded a leaked version that is much better in quality.
One weird thing is: one song, Future Baby Mama, is totally screwed up, it sounds like chipmunks are singing the song, and the music itselve is a mess. I think its because of a recording problem. One thing i noticed: there seems to be a 'party segue' at the start of the song, one like those you can hear on the black album. Is it there on the 'real' version too?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
One thing i also noticed:
Prince is using the same effectdevice on his guitar on The One U wanna C as Peter Buck from REM does on the song All the way to Reno. That 'twang' effect gives it a slightly campy 'country' sound.

Actually, from FBM on that release sounds bad in one way or another... Why people have the disc but want to release crappy leaks, if at all, is a mystery to me. How early is the Mail On Sunday available in the UK?

Well, my version, apart from FBM then, sounds splendid.
I like to hear an album nowadays before i decide to buy it, thats all.

I like to hear an album nowadays before i decide to buy it, thats all. It's the same release. FBM is the quivery chipmunk version. The tracks after that have uneven volume levels (Mr. Goodnight sounds way too loud) and the dynamic range sounds compressed. If that's how the tracks sound on the final release then somebody, somewhere screwed up horribly... It's ear fatigue central, imo.

Strange that Wendy and Lisa are not credited for background-vocals, i swear i can hear them at 3 - 4 tracks.

The sound of the overall cd is layered, but not too much. I like listening to it lots; it does not sound too overproduced like lots of his previous latter work. I liked the bad rip, kinda, but the actual sound makes the album damn' nice. Esp the vocals are mixed pretty well.

I heard it a few times thru out the cd....I thought I was hearing things at first Heard it when I played it on a cd player. Maybe it is the rumoured enhanced part (I could not access it, if it IS there at all) trying to come out? I ripped the cd to harddrive cuz I listen to MP3's and that ripped version plays flawlessly.

GODDAMMIT! Lion of Judah is turning out to be one of my favourite Prince songs EVER!!!!!
It's fierce... and it just gets fiercer and fiercer and fiercer... The bass, the guitar, the background voice... Oh my ... Anyone feeling this song like I do? i feel that this songs really comes close to the raving rants about the Watchtower/Best Of U cover. 555-4444 you're on coffee talk.

I have the chipmunk future baby mamma version. It´s not a segue, that "talk part" is only that live conversation with the lady that say "yeah i think its hot" in the radio broadcast.
