Wildcard is, indeed, a slendidly enjoyable album... as are all of his (I find)... and he's as nutty as a nut tree in full bloom. Marvellous.

No, no, he really is a genius. Totally fab. From his numerous smash hits my favorites are Wishing Well, Dance Little Sister, Blame It On The Rain & Girl You Know It's True.
Now remind me again, which 1 is he?

i have to give TTD credit cus he can throw them thangs LOL, i also like his eccentric nature but unlike prince he's never mastered song structure. i love TTD for different reasons than prince and he is a maverick in ways that prince pretends to be. Wildcard angered me, yet i eventually laughed cus i accept TTD's craziness, he's actually a rambling poet who can sing is ass off which can lead to poor editing.my ex wife used to say "i can listen to that nigga sing mary had a little lamb" LOL. yeah homeboy is crazy, and not the talent that prince is but shit who the fuck can say that? i actually rate his show at first avenue in 95 as the best live show i've ever seen. afterwards he hung out at paisley with prince and they looked like mutt and jeff walking around cus TTD is easily 6'4 in bare feet.

I have some writings due to arrive shortly, which may be of interest to your heart!
I shall also soon announce dates in Europe !!!!

In the meantime, I wish to say that master Prince's recent deal with the London Mail On Sunday, is

Thanks for directing my attention once again to this guy. I didn't even realise he changed his name. Not a good career move, probably. Which must mean that he is serious about it (or that he thought it was a good career move).

From his website he sounds great still. His personality seems a bit ... well, he has found spiritual peace, but in that rather disturbing way in which outsiders can't really understand what he's on about.

Bottom line: Still a fantastically gifted all round musician - and since when is it a negative thing to be inspired by Prince??? I don't get it.

I did not know orgers could hate so much a musician...

Pay a little more respect to talented people... TTD did some great songs, did some weak ones as it happens 4 every artist who still tries 2 create !

P and TTD share "something"... and so what ?

if someone hates him, what's it to you? i don't hate him. but i never understand why this guy in particular has fans that are on the verge of tears and demanding that people show him respect when someone says they don't like him.

i mean, i love the beatles, and i think people that hate them and say they suck are just completely bonkers. but it doesn't hurt my feelings. it just makes me think they suck. shrug

Oh yeah, TTD is talented.

But he's as mad as a lorry

I honestly don't think he sounds much like Prince at all, but he DEFINITELY digs his style and perhaps would do some of the things has done if he was anywhere near as big.

Hardline was good, had some decent tunes but was nowhere near the level of hype

Fish nor Flesh was too muddled...not my cup of tea

Symphony or Damn is one of the most underrated and forgotten albums of the 90s

Vibrator was too like Symphony or Damn, but not nearly as good. Not to my liking

WildCard was poor IMO.

I think he was too unfocused to be honest and that was his downfall

Apparantly he was a decent boxer too

Ok. I AM SO OUT OF THE LOOP on this GUY.
Tell me exactly WHY is he loopy?

that's it dreamshaman, "a rambling poet". i think i posted elsewhere that he tries at times to sound unnecessarily poetic and its aggravating, and you've helped me realize that it DOES affect his song "structure". but i chalk it up to a TTD eccentricity that makes him unique.

Wild Card was kinda blah to me apart from O Davina, Designated Fool, and Shalom, but he has a some solid hits he could compile. He's talented, cats can front and hate all they want. saw him live too here in the D. at St. Andrews and got to hang with his band afterwards. Great show!

ooo i forgot, o love shalom LOL. TTD is my nigga for real and i'll stand on my song structure case, because it's a case for my ears. i put out boxing articles every month, there are people who think i'm a savant, some who think i'm and idiot LOL. when i rush out crap people let me know, when i truly apply myself i have my moments and some people say wow. TTD wont get a pass from me cus he's talented, just like boxing fans wont give me a pass cus i know a little bit about boxing.

How did a positive comment by TTD get turned into such a negative.Any musician can see that the man is very talented, or non musician for that matter. Some people may not like his music but to call him not talented or bad is kind of silly.

sananda is the tops!
He's got an interesting mind, he's serious and playful, witty, spiritual.
Totally amazing at what he does.

He doesn't seem half as vain as prince.
Not the best guitarist, or pianist, but he makes up for all and any deficiences with his voice.

I don't understand the way some people react to him.
Prince is well established now, but in the mid eighties, I remember he also had more than his fair share of raging morons all too eager to share their sightless oppinions.

Sananda Maitreya is an extremely talented artist. Why do some fools always gotta hate on the man. The fact is his entire catalog sounds extremely different from Prince's music so why do some of you always classify him as a Prince wanna-be, that just shows ignorance on your part. It's always the same thing on the org, one person posts news on Sananda and then the idiot parade comes out to bash him. They never have anything new to say except the same old shit:
* that he's a Prince wanna-be (he's not)
* they bring up some silly comment he made in the 80's when
he was just starting out.
* the name change (Prince changed his name to get
outta his contract. Sananda changed his name
for spiritual reasons and has kept his new
name. A lot of people have done this...Muhammad
Ali, Malcolm X, Cat Stevens, etc. Funny they
never referred to as Prince wanna-be's.
* the Angels and Vampires album cover that ignorant
people like to dis instead of talking about the music.

You haters are showing your true ignorance. Any black man that plays rock,
that is a multi-instrumentalist, that is a singer/songwriter, is automatically
labeled a Prince wanna-be regardless of whether or not his music sounds like Prince's. Sananda's music sounds totally different from Prince's. Sananda has released some of the best funk/rock cd's in the last 17 years. Have you heard "Symphony or Damn," "Vibrator," and "WildCard?" Whether or not you like it is a matter of taste but you cannot deny after listening to these albums that there is a HIGH DEGREE of talent, musicianship, and songwriting involved. Those 3 cd's are fucking incredible...but most of the haters have probably only heard "The Hardline."

And to the guy who keeps calling Sananda "Sandra"...dude, you show up in every single Sananda thread with the same corny joke and nobody laughs. Get a new line bro. You must be the annoying guy at the party who keeps saying the same crappy joke until someone reluctantly chuckles just so you'll go away. That "Sandra" line is very "third-grade" of you.

So yeah, Sananda is a great musician/songwriter. An incredible vocalist. He may not be everyone's cup of tea but who is? I just think some of you should stop hating on another excellent musician just because he's not Prince. There's only one Prince. There's only one Sananda. There are many incredible artist in the world. Be a lover not a hater.

great post! I just recently got turned onto TTD again,(I respect the man's name change but it's easier to type TTD, I'm lazy), and I gotta say I'm loving "Vibrator" right now. I'm about to pick up Symphony or Damn also. I can't believe how great Vibrator is! Ressurection is blowing me away right now. I WON'T ANSWER!! LOVE IT! A bright spot in music, a fantastic emotionally charged voice! His lyrics are interesting and he does throw out some ingenious hooks. I love the Shit out of some TTD. So he came off a little arogant when he first came out. Big deal...it's called being a Rock Star folks and Prince has himself been a bit guilty of this as well. But you can't deny TTD has such an incredible voice! Gives me shivers.

He had another CD besides the 3 you mention, the second one. Forgot the name of it. Do you think I should pick that up as well?

At least he'll tide me over until Planet Earth comes out.

His second cd is called "Neither Fish Nor Flesh." It's a great cd, many of his fans consider it their favorite. I didn't mention it cuz to me he took it to another level with "Symphony or Damn" and everthing that followed it. I like "neither fish nor flesh" just I personally don't like it as much as the ones I previously mentioned, but that's just a matter of taste. You should definitely get them all. lol

I'm one of those TTD fans that say get Fish Nor Flesh LAST lol I don't like that one, never have. All his other stuff is superior imo, but you have lots of folks who'll tell you different. I think that album has the potential to turn people off though, 'cause it seems like lots of folks fell off once that shit was released exclaim
