Coming from THE rich man who wrote it (ICNTTPOYM). I wouldn't be so harsh but I see your point. I do think it's in that mode but yes, maybe not as cool. But hey Wendy being on it makes it special. So it's cool in my book. Fantasy is reality in the world today. But I'll keep hangin in there, that is the only way.

BTW, I do like it.
I cannot wait to hear a better version. I've only heard a mono-sounding low-fi version. Fantasy is reality in the world today. But I'll keep hangin in there, that is the only way.

Perfect test: My bf who is not a Prince fan has been humming this all day since I was listened to it once. He loves it (as do I).

If you were told this tune was an outtake from SOTT, you would be like "wow, I wish Prince could still write som fun tunes like this one ! ". It is so late revolutionish sounding. No one else (and certainly not Shania Twain who is far from being the worst singer and entertainer out there btw) would place the bass like Prince on this tune. No one else would play this fun so typical Prince solo right in the middle. No one else would sing this fun falsetto line around the end. I feel a strong w & l influence on this tune btw. In fact, apart from Guitar, so far T1UWC and FBM sound like some outtakes from the 80's. EXACTLY!!! Everyone hating on this song would be lapping it up if they thought it was part of the 80's output. It is as well crafted a pop song as Prince has ever done, but some people are too jaded and stuck in the past to admit. It is playful andquite unique in it's arrangement of funk bassline with country guitar. Some people just refuse to enjoy anything since SOTT. That's cool though,,, they can stare through their crap-colored glasses all they want. Those of us with clear eyes (and ears) can enjoy while they once again huddle around their computers, waxing nostalgic about 20 years ago. I agree. I wasn't big on 3121 so I am not one of those "everything Prince does is the best" people but I must say these songs I heard from PE have me excited about the album.

the 2nd listen did it for me. this is catchy as hell. should get the crossover play he hasn't been getting if radio will stop frontin' on him. new but feels old, familiar but different.
i understand the stefani, shania, WYWM and ICNTTPOYM, and RB references too. i guess if it HAD to be categorized with those i'd agree, but let it have its own identity. PE might be the "multi-genre" approach many don't want, but so far, so pleased. LOL

TOUWC enters top 40 at WTMX Chicago. If this song ever takes off at more stations, WTMX really deserves some credit for getting behind it early.

I hear both of you but for me the song sounds dated and indeed it does sound like it would be perfect for a Ford Car commercial. P is 50 years old its just not the type of song I imaginde him doing at that age. Its so bubble gum pop. That being said I don't think its horrible its just not my cup of tea. I also think the other posters comparison to Shania Twain is appropriate. Easily a song she could do and sound better doing it actually Dance... Let me see you dance

It's as fun a pop tune as can be, and incredibly catchy. In some odd way it remeinds me of 'my name is Prince'.. must be because of the energetic choirs of P's. The song is kinda simplistic at first sight, but the genius lies in the way it's built up. I dunno.. it excites me more than most stuff on 3121 (fury being the exception), or musicology for that matter.
If this song isn't going to do well in the charts, i don't think we can blame P, since it's got everything do be one helluva summertime hit

When Eric and Kathy first played it on Monday, they had a bit of fun with it...sort of saying (I'm paraphrasing here): "Wow. This is a little weird for our station." Kathy is a Prince fan, but the only song by P I ever hear on that station is "Kiss." They were comparing adding it to their playlist to the fact that they also added "Before He Cheats" by Carrie Underwood and were questioning the programmers adding a country song to the station. At any rate, Eric emailed me back quickly and said that he actually liked Prince. And I've been hearing it with a bit more frequency now. All of the other on-air folks at the Mix have sounded really excited about it when they talk after the song is over. They're sort of treating it like a "perfect summer song" (a la Rhianna's "Umbrella"). Fine by me! I love it! Keith/Kacey

If they just decided to spin it on their own, it would explain why no other stations have added it.

The kinda fun pop song I haven't heard from him in a while. Doesn't sound forced, just cool. Kinda song to drive around with the windows down on a summer day to.
I can hear why some might think it's countryish, but that's more to do with modern country's transformation into pop music with an accent than anything else, imo. "What kind of fuck ending is that?"

Dang, WTMX played it 5 times the past 24 hours! That's enough to push it to top 10 next week. Some other stations should give the song a shot. If it works in Chicago in the summer, it's got to have legs elsewhere.

i love collecting 80's output but i dont idealize it. theres only one "time" that is relevant and that is now, i'm more interested in who prince is now because this very moment is the place 2 be. i'm sure he feels the same way.
