I love the song. It's smooth and edgy. The drum pattern is sick and the bass is ILL.
It reminds me of "Do Me Baby", and a little bit of "Somebody's Somebody". It's an awesome song and I keep listening to it over and over! |

I'm loving this song. I've heard it like 20 times today. To me, it sounds like it could have been on the "1999" album...that's just my opinion though so please don't overanalyze that statement. But yeah, I'm totally digging it. In my opinion it's not the type of song that's gonna be the crown jewel of the album or anything, but it's real easy on the ears and it's the type of song you can play over and over again and not get tired of it. Definitely has the classic Prince sound of his greatest ballads from the past. Between "Future Baby Mama" and "Guitar" and the fact that "insiders" keep saying the album has a more rock vibe, I'm more excited for this Prince album than I have been for any in a real long time. It sounds like it's gonna be the bomb.

It made me think of the time when he used to do songs like Adore and Pink Cashmere. P, you've made it.

I don't really understand the comparison to Call My Name. The reviewer must be some gal who hasn't heard anything from P before 2004.

Donnie Simpson played it this morning in D.C. He said that he liked it, as did the others in the studio. Good move to also release a slow song for R&B radio.

OK - after many listens now...this tune is one bad-ass song.
1. It always amazes me when he can take an odd title and make it sound cool 2. His vocals are sick - full, falsetto full effect and smooooth 3. Any1 notice at 2:42 the comparisons to Thieves In The Temple - niiice 4. He is the master of the Linn! (JT aint got sh*t on P and I love End of All Time cause its soooo Prince inspired) 5. I believe that is Wendy accompanying Prince at the end (maybe or just all P!) 6. Overall instrumentation is excellent - P rockin the MFing bass 7. Love how most peeps r diggin this joint! peace Sounds like a mix between I Hate U 2 Thieve in the Temple 2 Scandalous Nice job P - cant wait 4 Planet Earth! The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.

Personally, i dont like it a lot when Prince tries to do 'modern R&B', but it seems inevitable nodays NOT to have 1 or 2 tracks in this vein on his albums.
Nonetheless, i have just heard it, and i must say its not as bad as i think it would be: it reminds me a bit of I hate u (in terms of the melody) and musicwise its kind of mixture between sweet baby and what do you want me to do. Some nice instrumental touches there (organ, acoustic guitar, the linndrum) and some smooth overdubbed background vocals. I have the idea that Prince has put some mor care in the production of Planet Earth then he did on the production for Musicology and 3121. After listening to it 2 times i like it better allready then Incense and Candles and Beautifull, loved and blessed. I must say i personally like his more 'oldschool', stax-like R&B / soul ballads like Dark and Satisfied a lot better, but for a song in a more modern vein Future Baby Mama is certainly not bad.

I wonder if the song will be an R&B hit only or cross over to Top 40.
Not that it matters, but if it's just an R&B hit, Prince has really come full circle.

I've just heard the song from the links provided and I must say, Damn that's a nice song. It's not too slow and deep like Do Me Baby but it's just about the same tempo and pace of Pink Cashmere. It must be good since it's getting this much airplay, the folks seem to be supporting it. This song is just right for Black AC radio like this station's moniker states " Grown Folks Music " . Give it some weeks and black stations will have it on heavy rotation, I hope they will at least. This song is much better than Robin Thicke's Lost Without You and most know how much play that song got. Dare I say it but what would we say if R. Kelly put this out, would we be as nice? I think its to 'sweet' and subdued to become a TOP 40-hit, but i think it will do well on the R&B charts and playlists.
Personally i think he has given this track 'out' to the radiostations to attrack R&B lovers towards Planet Earth. Guitar is more aimed at the pop / rock market. Based on the two songs i heard so far, and the reviews of Planet Earth i read, this new album is a mixed bag like 3121 was: a few R&B and funky tracks, some simple, direct rock songs and a few more experimental, 'weird' tracks. I happen to love songs in the last category, and i hope there will be a bit more of those on the album as on 3121.

Not that it matters, but if it's just an R&B hit, Prince has really come full circle. If there were no such things as radio politics and over commercialization, it could play well on Pop top 40, but it wouldn't reach no# 1. Considering most of the ass crap that has recently been no# 1 songs, it would be a major surprise for FBM to go that high, we can all dream can't we? Jeux Sans Frontiers

For those of you who haven't heard this song yet, I've uploaded it on my MySpace page at: [Do not stream bootleg snip - luv4u]
I basically recorded it from streaming radio by putting one end of a patch cable in the headphone jack and the other in the line in jack of my laptop and hitting record when the song came on, so the sound isn't exactly stereo quality, but it's better than nothing. And don't laugh at my lackluster Myspace page. I started it a while back and lost interest in it. [Edited 6/27/07 19:12pm] "I Was FINE Back in the Day!"
