I love the song. It's smooth and edgy. The drum pattern is sick and the bass is ILL.

It reminds me of "Do Me Baby", and a little bit of "Somebody's Somebody".

It's an awesome song and I keep listening to it over and over!

Me too, it's a sure hit for Prince!

I like it a lot. It's easy to compare it to other Prince ballads because it uses a lot of familiar sounds and structures from previous work. At first the Linn programming put me off. I thought "Why is Prince using the same drum sounds he was using 20 years ago?".I wondered for a moment if this was just a rehashed outtake from '87.

That thought faded away as I listened. The melody is instantly catchy and familiar. This is a track that will be in my playlists for some time to come, and it has me very interested to hear what the album sounds like.

I decided to listen.. I think it was decent until that damn talking part came.. it totally entered itself into the standard r&b category...

Vocals? very young sounding prince.. he still has it vocally..

I am hoping a few songs enter experimental land.. this shit here is for the birds.

the more i hear it the more i like it. i like the first line, "i heard it said my lovers look alike, could it be that i was looking for u"

see? even he knows there's the "prince-girl" type.

I agree on the talking. Obviously, I would have preferred an instrumental break. Besides that, and the overtly layered vocals, I dig it. Like you said, his main vocals are killer and I like the understated but sweet melody, the old-sschool beat and the bass work.

Prince has talking parts in plenty of his ballads. It's his thing. shrug

That's right. And I'd rather listen to this talking, than the crap at the end of Do Me, Baby.

ok.just heard the track.

this will DEFINITELY be a most requested song(geared towards R&B radio)

Future Baby Mama(modern day slang)
LM-1(OH NO HE DIDN'T DO THE THANG WITH "LINN"?.....omg err excited)

i think of "I Hate U" along with "The Beautiful Ones" vocals are tight too.

I'll just cut and paste the message I posted from another thread, apologies.

Heard it for the 1st time.
True, it does feel like "When 2 R In Love"
But the torrid eroticism of the young adult Prince is now supplanted with his middle-age calm. I don't mean to sound negative though. Take it or leave it, this is the sound of Prince thinking loud as a man who has passed 40. You can actually hear his contentment through the lilting (and thoroughly infectious) melody of the verses (Chaka and Rufus's Sweet Thing might have been an inspiration for this song). It is however the song that comes closest to the best of his 80's ballads. The instrumentation (Linn and bass parts), at least, points to that direction, and not the 90's as previously noted. And one of his best vocals in a while. It may be the best one sung in falsetto since Journey to the Center of your Heart. His trademark harmonies which harken back to that first track from his first album are especially more evident here than with most of his recent R & B output. A lot of us prefer his more adventurous side, his unpredictable tendencies and (sometimes) excesses, but this is short and sweet Prince with just about everything in their right place. And it does deliver.

And thankfully the spoken parts are not "rapped".
This is not space-age electronic (and badly produced) or JB funkified (with synthetic horns) or anemic pop-rock (and Watchtower peddling) or impostured hip-hop (and ridiculous "rapping") or Stax-influenced (or coitus interruptus) or Latin-tinged (or lame excuse to use Sheila) Prince.
It's just good old Prince, period.

And it is a thousand times better than Guitar which sounds so much like 3121's Fury, albeit a dumbed-down version of it. Guitar is one of those rare instances in Prince's already mixed bag of a catalogue when the instrumentation doesn't seem to jive with the vocals. The "turn it up" part before the guitar solo sounds so undeserving of the fireworks that follow it. Why does he even use this little but not quite Camille voice of his? In my opinion, Guitar and Future Baby Mama are on two opposite extremes in the vocal department. The former being the worst and the latter being the best in a long time.
[Edited 6/27/07 21:49pm]

It reminds me of When 2 R In Love also. It's a hot song! I like it! And I'm really not a fan of slow songs.

For those of you who haven't heard this song yet, I've uploaded it on my MySpace page at: [Do not stream bootleg snip - luv4u]

I basically recorded it from streaming radio by putting one end of a patch cable in the headphone jack and the other in the line in jack of my laptop and hitting record when the song came on, so the sound isn't exactly stereo quality, but it's better than nothing.

And don't laugh at my lackluster Myspace page. smile I started it a while back and lost interest in it.

Ok, I'm feelin' it. It reminds of his old stuff. The beat. Sounds like the kind of intruments he would use back in the day. Then another when he started talkin'. Like in some classics like Do Me Baby, The Beautful Ones, Scandouls and Insatiable.
