The Revolution was his best band woot!

Maybe creatively, but musically, the 2002-2004 incarnation of the NPG is one of the best. Also the NPG from 1994-1995 are tops. John Blackwell and Michael Bland could outplay Bobby Z in their sleep.

Yep! That works 4 Me 2! cool

I pretty much agree. I'm not saying the current line up are bad musicians, they're not, I mean they are all professionals; but they lack the flava/flair/spark whatever you wanna call it of past bands. I feel like there is no cohesiveness or personality to them. Like they are literally just Prince's back-up band.

I felt that way from the first time I saw them at Nokia--there isn't any chemistry between them--or between them and Prince. I will admit they have gotten tighter music-wise but for playing together for over a year, they are still sloppy for a Prince band.

Maybe Prince is more laid back these days or this is his way of "mentoring" younger musicians, but I'm actually kinda surprised he's kept them this long. I guess maybe they are less expensive to keep on the payroll too...(compared to Blackwell, et al.) razz

.
