And definitely no Larry Graham, the best damn bass player P ever played with.

That's true, but I don't really think he's the best bass player for Prince's music.

however princes style comes from Larry dont you think?

Have you seen them live and in person???

yes, I saw them when prince and tamar performed in houston last year....

just seems to be something missing

I was at that show too, which was almost a year and a half ago and this band has done many, many shows and high profile events since then. Logic would tell you that they wouldn’t be in the same place they were then, even though I thought they were awesome in Houston. After seeing them on several occasions in the last 12 months I think they've found their rhythm together. People kill me constantly bringing up the Revolution when in reality, because of their youth and limited experiences with Prince, they were largely a bunch of novices and not seasoned, journeymen musicians like the current lineup.

I think the real problem is that after seeing the same faces in a band for so many years people get to know them and form attachments to their favorite band members. It's easy for people to say this current lineup lacks personality but when have most people gotten a chance to get to know THIS band the way you know former versions of his band??? It is not Prince's responsibility to showcase the "personality" of the band members. He did it before with the Revolution and we got to know them through years of videos and of course Purple Rain. There hasn't been a similar opportunity for this band and maybe Prince doesn't want a cast of characters and wants their personalities in the background since the attention should be on the music anyway.

Also, I don't think they REALLY played much on the 3121 album and even if you went to Vegas and saw them how would you get to know their "personality" from watching them back Prince up??? I'm just saying it's not fair to say they lack something personality wise when they've only been around for a couple of years and haven't been on a major tour so that the masses can see them. And even then, Prince is not showcasing his individual band members’ personalities as he did in the past so maybe THAT's the real difference in why people are having trouble connecting with this band. Personally, I had the pleasure to chat with most of them on different occasions in Vegas and they were always kind and gracious to the fans and killed on stage and in the end that’s what REALLY matters.

Uh, someone else did say that and a lot of people still think the Revolution are his best band. And I did mention that they sound great on stage, technical difficulties notwithstanding, but I guess you missed that too. wink

And isn't this your comment below??? I was addressing the personality remark as well. sigh

I've never posted in a 'which band should P have' thread before, but I just have to say... I like the band in the Guitar video for the most part. I think Rhonda should be on bass, though. I like the keyboard player, he seems to fit the rest of the band better than Neto would, even though I love him also. I like Cora on drums, she looks great in the video, love her hair and purple makeup... if that's her playin drums in the actual song Guitar, I like her drumming too. I've always loved The Twinz, they need 2 stay for a while... I predict some really cool makeup on them for "Planet Earth" related performances and pictures.

Yeah, I'm happy with this band.

Yay, Morris is the coolest thing about Prince's band at the moment. It's a welcome return for Mr Hayes.

I think every band member of at each stage of Prince's career has contributed something unique. Dr Fink was great in his time - now I don't think he'd fit with the current vibe, whereas I think Mr Hayes is an inspired choice. Personality wise - do you actually know either of these guys?

They are different in their presentation, but Dr Fink was of his time and I don't think he'd fit now.
I don't know how can you say Mr H has no stage presence, I think he has huge personality, but you're entitled to your opinion.

I think the band is not as strong and as much a part of his show as in the past .In the old days each member of his band were as wellknown to the fans as Prince.the show was a complete show, not Prince performing with a band behind him.My problem is with the twins. They are not gifted, when it comes to dancing,so I am puzzeled as to why he usually surrounds himself with dancers that clearly are not dancers? I still love his performances.Just try not to look at dancers, they truly aggrevate me. You can count the singers that have been around awhile, that still allow their band to be a serious part of their show.I guess they think it takes something away from them.I don't see this being a reason for Prince,he is a hard act to follow!!

they're just different kinds is all. Larry's playing sounds dated on Prince's music. Don't get me wrong, and this has nothing to do with all the JW b.s..... I just don't particularly enjoy hearing Larry play with Prince. Not to mention his stage shtick confused Though he is a great player.

The best Prince band was the SOTT/Lovesexy band. However if you are to play with Prince, you have to be good. He's not going to have bums backing him. I think this band will do just fine.

I disagree, Prince was his funkiest when he had the horn lines being played by synths.....I think he lost some of his identity when he started using real horns because it made him sound like everyone else in the 70's.

Prince in the 80's was wayyy funkier than annnnnyyybody from the 70's trust me!

Name me one song from the 70's that can compete with LADY CAB DRIVER,LET'S WORK.OR 777-9311?
