I don't hate the album (or the title track).

It just kinda pales in comparison to what came before. Although the 3121-Musicology argument could go on for a while... I enjoy the modern sound of 3121 compared to old-school Musicology, but I did get into the old school sound after a while. Still, both have started to gather dust cuz I don't listen to them much anymore.

I listened to the album last night.

It's pretty obvious to me that he loved doing 3121 and Lolita... he had a lot of fun with those and I can tell...

I think tracks 3-7 are about an ongoing relationship. Cuz they all sound interrelated... so that does bind the album together better than I figured.

I just don't really see much of a spark to it when u look at the past.

Sure, it's on fire because it IS Prince... but the flame is more yellow.

His other material that's a lot hotter, I think u could say has a blue flame.

They do say that blue flames are hotter than yellow or red.

And I think I wanna just throw out Fury altogether cuz it spoils the flow... its a good song and all, but on the album, he could just do SO MUCH better than that. (all more the reason why he should have put the live version on here... kinda like what he did with PR, he mixed studio-made tracks with live recordings)

that I could play it start to finish unlike most of his albums and that it has a retro groove to it, reminding me of his older music, but yet sounding fresh and anything but outdated

Wow factor? Definitely the title track. Hopefully he'll pursue this line of funk in the future, drenched in chicken grease.

The guitar solo in "3121" makes me go "Wow!"

He did it live at the February 9 aftershow in Vegas -- with Sheila E in the house. He turned his mic around so some of us could sing back-up. It was an absolute riot.

The heavy breathing at the beginning of The Word was the closest to "wow" I've gotten from him in a looooong time.
