I heard it's not a Prince gig but a Prince party with DJ and some snippets of new material.

lol

I fear this may be the case, surely they would advertise it as a concert not a 'party' if there is going to be a full show? On the other hand it is very much a live venue.

Are we actually sure he even has his band with him at the moment? Sorry to be negative, just seems a bit weird to me.

A 'Source' said he would be on at 10. All that remains is for us to go and have a party good time YAY!

Would he really charge the same price as his gig tickets if this weren't a gig? I mean Koko is a live venue, and Madonna, Christina, Pink, Pussy Cat Dolls have all played their exclusive gigs there, so there is definite precedent for it. Plus ticketmaster clearly says 'On stage at 11', which does imply some sort of concert - Most of the names above have played 5 or 6 tracks as a taster to their forthcoming tour, so i would imagine it would be somethign similar.. It's not like it's an after-show, where he sometimes does performs and sometimes doesn't..

I wonder if he'll be around in London all summer... I'll be back in England for two weeks in early July, and I probably have more chance of seeing him there than here in Boston...

Got a friend at the gig and he's texting me updates.

Says the place "looks amazing" and there's a good crowd there.

Will send more as I get it, that's if he doesn't pass out with excitement smile

Yes,it was amazing - felt really up close and personal at such a great (and relatively small) venue. I was about four rows back!

The dancing twins were sychronised and pneumatic (where do they get their energy??!). He also did his facvourite trick of inviting the audience onto some stage which led to some comedy moments (cue camp

He covered that Amy Winehouse track he'd promised to do. Was also joined by Maceo Parker and three other horn-players (sorry - I'm sure some other Orgers will know who they were!)

Tracks included:
Nothing Compares 2 U
Kiss
Girls & Boys
Cream
Let's Go Crazy
Musicology
Satisfied

Covers:
Crazy (Gniles Barkley)
Play that Funky Music
"Well, maybe not the ride..."

Sorry - meant to finish dancing comment with 'cue camp guy dancing and Prince taking the mickey; girl kissing Prince: he jokingly falls to the ground but when she tries to take it further by straddling him, she's bundled off stage by two bouncers!

Prince did a couple of costume changes, including disappearing for a short wjile and then reappearing amongst the audience on the balcony.

No after show party that anyone could find out about (will be gutted if I hear otherwise!) and we heard that even more dates are due to be announced for August at the London O2 plus several secret gigs around that time.

Absolutely AMAZING night - shame it was slightly ruined by an outrageously rude and aggressive American / Canadian (sorry not sure which!) guy in the audience who was being VERY rude about the British (using words I will not repeat here) and nearly starting a fight! I hope he's ashamed of himself this morning!

The gig was awesome. The new(ish) dude on sax - don't know his name - was unbelievable. Maceo was on fire too.

A few other songs he also played:

Lolita
Shhh
U got the look

Some new song with him rapping (?)

And Shelby covered 'Love is a Losing Game'

Here’s a fairly brief report. (I’ll write it up for a full review in the Independent On Sunday in nine days’ time).

He came on around 11.45pm and played for about 100 minutes. He wore a... vanilla beret. (And a black ‘3121’ suit) This being one of his famous after-hours sets, he was having fun with it (completely destroying his recent image as a humourless, sexless Bible-basher), and kept the whole thing informal and loose.

He stagedived, he gave away three guitars, he suddenly appeared on the balcony directly over my head, dancing with the crowd, he invited fans up onstage to dance and sing. He played cover versions (Amy Winehouse’s "Love Is A Losing Game", Aretha Franklin’s "I Never Loved A Man The Way I Love You", Wild Cherry’s "Play That Funky Music", Funkadelic’s "One Nation Under A Groove").

He teased us: "So many hits, so little time. You wanna hear ‘Diamonds And Pearls’? (Crowd screams) ‘Pop Life’? (Louder crowd screams) ‘Raspberry Ber...’ (Loudest crowd screams) ...nahhh!" and "You don’t UNDERSTAND! I got so many hits I’d blow this place APART!"

The hits he did play, in amongst the extended jazz-funk jamming (which, if I‘m honest, sometimes got boring), included: "Girls & Boys", "Black Sweat", "Kiss", "Cream", “U Got The Look", "Nothing Compares 2 U" and a finale of "Let’s Go Crazy" straight out of Purple Rain (complete with huge searchlight behind him).

I filmed a couple of clips: the first one’s not so great, just capturing the moment of his entrance in a gospel-soul overture that I think was "Satisfied" from Musicology, but the second is the knockout. It starts with "Black Sweat" and then, at approx 3:24, switches into a certain other much-loved song. I know it's frowned upon here, but I've uploaded them both to a certain well-known video-sharing site, where my username is simonprice
