It was going to be on Purple Rain but ended up not. So it's from that era if you're interested.

Easily one of his best unreleased songs.

I've never found it that exciting and can see why it was replaced on the album. Maybe if I heard a studio clean version I'd change my mind.

surely you must of seen prince perform this live (DVD), in 83 at first avenue? it gave me goose bumps "Sometimes being a cold hard bitch is all a woman has left."

It's only on the one outtake version. . how many versions are out there in total? Ask where they're going, they'll tell U – "Nowhere"
They've taken a lifetime lease on Paisley Park ...

There are no actual Studio versions in circulation.
There are a number of different Rehearsal versions about 3 or four. All include band instructions and in one you can hear Prince say wake up Wendy. Including one which has Prince's band instructions wiped out to make it sound more like a studio take. This is often mistaken for a studio outtake. For me the best version is from the August 3rd 1983 First Avenue Concert. The one and only time he performed it Live. This was the concert that he used the basic tracks for a few songs on the Purple Rain Album. Off the top of my head. I Would Die 4 U, Baby I'm A Star and Purple Rain. It was the first time he played these songs and Let's Go Crazy and Computer Blue, along with Electric Intercourse. He replaced Electric Intercourse with The Beautiful Ones on the album, which for me is the superior song. Purple Rain at this point included an extra verse. If you haven't heard or seen this copy you need to track a copy down, it's historically important and such a great concert, full of passion. I would go as far to say out of tall the Prince records I own, Live or Studio this is my favorite. For me it's his best ever concert and a must have. A simple song, but I think it's terrific.
I just downloaded it from Limewire. Limewire downloads aren't always reliable and availability can change hour to hour, so its kind of a crapshoot. Have to burn it to CD to make sure I have it for ever.

I've always found this outtake very much overrated. The Beautiful Ones runs circles around this song. Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου
μηδὲν ὅλως σὺ λυποῦ πρὸς ὀλίγον ἐστὶ τὸ ζῆν τὸ τέλος ὁ χρόνος ἀπαιτεῖ.”
