As soon as I leave here I'm going to look for a place to live," he told journalists.

And he hopes to be joined on stage by soul singer Amy Winehouse, having declared himself a big fan.

thumbs up!

Prince said that afterwards he planned "to travel and study the Bible". Prince has not played a UK arena for at least ten years.

Prince announces massive London residency
And he wants Amy Winehouse to join him

Prince is to perform his greatest hits for the last time at a massive London residency this summer.

The star will perform for 21 nights, kicking off with seven shows at the 02 Arena on August 1, 3, 4, 7, 10, 11 and 14.

Tickets for what is being billed as the Earth Tour go on sale at 9am on Friday (May 11).

To check ticket availability and get all the latest listings, go to NME.COM/GIGS now.

The other shows will be announced at a later date.

The ticket price of £31.21 will also include a copy of Prince's as-yet-untitled new album.

Speaking at a press conference in London today (May 8), Prince said he and his band had rehearsed 150 songs for the dates, the only European shows he will perform this year.

He also revealed his wish for Amy Winehouse to join him onstage for a version of her track 'Love Is A Losing Game'.

Prince also said that after the shows he was going to take time off to travel and study The Bible. He also revealed he's been house-hunting in London, and added: "I really like Earl's Court , but I can't live there!"

If he was truly at peace, he wouldn't feel the need to mention how "spiritual" he is at every opportunity. I'll be thankful when he plays some music and keeps his religion to himself for a change.

His faith is 2 spread the news of the bible he wouldn’t have peace in himself if he didn’t do this.

The O2 in Greenwich is of course the Millenium Dome, which has been done out and is due to re-open in July, so it appears the new owners will be using Prince to promote the venue, being one of the first acts to grace the stage. Can Prince really sell this out for 2 weeks given his general lack of popularity in the UK or will his legendary status carry the day? It will be interesting to see. Maximum capacity seems to be 23,000 according to this blurb, depending on how the stage is set-up, or perhaps Prince will just be playing the 2,000 capacity music club venue?:

"Sitting at the centre piece on the site of the former Millennium Dome, The O2 Arena now boasts a fully-raised roof and outline. The purpose-built street, which wraps around the complex and will contain a 2,000 capacity Live Music Club, 11 screen cinema, exhibition and theatre spaces as well as bars and restaurants, is now clearly defined.

Also announced were plans for The O2’s staging of an opening season across its different venues. Featuring a broad range of music, entertainment and sporting events, it will span the summer of 2007, designed for the maximum breadth of appeal. An Olympic Venue, in 2012, The O2 will host the Gymnastics and Basketball finals whilst in 2009, it will play host to the Artistic Gymnastics World Championships.

The first purpose-built music venue in London since The Royal Albert Hall in 1871, The O2 Arena offers previously unavailable benefits for artists, customers and media. A flexible frame means a bespoke capacity can be set from two people to 23,000; an unprecedented 50 tonnes of equipment can be hung from its roof, whilst the main floor can be transformed to an ice rink in two hours. Consumers can enjoy wide armchair soft seating and broadcasters can take advantage of integrated, high definition broadcast capabilities when covering entertainment and sporting events. "

I really hope he does cover Amy's 'Love is a losing game' as part of the set - it's such a beautiful song, easily my favourite on her album.

what are peoples opinions on the best way to score tickets to the shows?

For instance, is the 02 thursday presale the way to go

through ticketmaster?

or through the 3121 site?

i hear its an 'in the round' show so i guess every seat is a good seat.. but is there a method to get prefered seating? i.e. through one of the methods mentioned above?

If the new album's sales are boosted in the same way as Musicology by the ticket sales, he may just have found his way back into the UK market, if he wants it.
So look into the mirror, do u recognise some1? Is it who u always hoped u would become, when u were young?

The O2 presale is through ticketmaster anyway, and the T&Cs on the O2 website say as little as 2,000 will be released on Thursday, so you'll probably have just as much of a chance with everyone else on the Friday over at ticketmaster.

I love this bit! What about Wembley Arena, The London Arena, The Marquee. All purpose built. The O2 is a refurb, just like, The Forum, The Rainbow, The Koko, Brixton Academy etc etc etc.

Perhaps I have poor reading comprehension skills, but I fail to see how these various articles posted indicate Prince wants Amy Winehouse to "be his opening act" or tour with him.

Prince playing concerts on London this year is brillant news. I haven't seen Prince in concert since 1993, when he played at Wembley Areana. I'm sure the Earth Tour will be awesome.

There are reports that after the stint in UK, he will be taking a break. So not so sure what this Earth Tour is. Unless he's touring the earth by himself and not with a band...i.e. vacation.

This is all 2 cool.

The direct marketing of the new album.

The Amy Winehouse thing.

The time off 4 study and travel.

Inspiration from the prophets from the Bible.

(and don't anyone worry that he won't tour the US. I'm sure he will)

We should all simply enjoy what's about 2 happen... the tour and the new album, which I'm sure will be fantastic.

Just my 2 cents.
