What happened to the new Videos DVD? It was a sticky a couple of days ago. New DVD on sale from 12/3 both in HMV and on Play.com. Was this available at HMV in Ireland?

Yes where has this thread gone?
It is available through HMV UK and Amazon UK and for a bargain price of £5.49! I've ordered mine already... "Playing hard to get is getting hard to play".

the last few messages on that thread were talking about it possibly being a bootleg that slipped thru to retail- maybe that has something to do with it??? Ask where they're going, they'll tell U – "Nowhere"
They've taken a lifetime lease on Paisley Park ...

I think that must be it, although I don't know why - it's not our fault if official stores have slipped up and allowed bootlegs to be sold via them. It isn't against Org rules to talk about them, only you can't say where to buy them - but if it is an official store, I don't see that rule applies. Until HMV or whoever takes action, they're legal. Also I think there is some confusion as there seems to be 2 DVDs going round with Prince videos on, one with 17 videos on it and one with 25!

There is only one dvd, just some confusion about the number of tracks. I have a copy and there are actually 29 tracks. You are probably correct in assuming the thread was snipped because of it being a boot. I have seen the continuity errors and mistakes on the track listing which confirms it for me. Therefore the mods would have had no choice but to close the thread because people were discussing where to purchase it which is against forum rules and could land the org in a lot of trouble legally.

Therefore the mods would have had no choice but to close the thread because people were discussing where to purchase it which is against forum rules and could land the org in a lot of trouble legally. It's wierd because you would think that the only people who would put a bootleg Prince DVD together would be fans of Prince who have sought out these videos in good quality - yet you would also expect them to be knowledgeable enough not to make such continuity errors and mistakes! Even if they weren't fans just business people, you would have expected them to do a minimal bit of research and get the tracklisting names right. As has been said previously, if it isn't produced by either Prince or Warners then it surely must be a bootleg, however I don't think the Org should be concerned with that as it is being sold in official stores and who knows, maybe there is some legal loophole that allows them to produce such a video. At the very least I think the Moderators should keep this thread open and only SNIP when someone mentions an address to get it from, which is not allowed, rather than bullishly deleting the whole thread, which is mainly just a discussion about this new dvd and which is allowed by the rules. I don't think you are correct saying there is only one dvd, from what I have seen and heard from people, there are 2 very different DVDs doing the rounds with different tracklists with differing total times, one is this: 1. Let's Pretend We're Married 2. Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad 3. Uptown 4. Girls And Boys 5. Raspberry Beret 6. Anotherloverholenyohead (Live) 7. Betcha By Golly Wow 8. Dinner With Delores 9. The Most Beautiful Girl In The World 10. Kiss 11. Insatiable 12. Money Don't Matter 2 Night 13. I Wish U Heaven 14. Thieves In The Temple 15. Gett Off 16. I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man (Live) 17. Cream runtime: 57minutes and then this one with these tracks: Kiss Let's Pretend Red Corvette Alphabet Street Money Don't Matter Power Generation Dirty Mind Girls and Boys Raspberry Beret Sexuality Controversy Your Man Thieves Uptown Automatic Wannabe Your Lover Glam Slam Why you Wanna You got the look Another Lover Get Off Cream Diamonds & Pearls 1999 America runtime: 2hours 7minutes.

Just picked up a copy at HMV in Edinburgh - still at work just now, so I won't get a chance to watch it until later tonight, but I'll post a quick review of the quality when I'm able.
For the record, the track listing on this DVD is as follows: Kiss Let's Pretend Red Corvette Alphabet Street Money Don't Matter Power Generation Dirty Mind Girls and Boys Raspberry Beret Sexuality Controversy Your Man Thieves Uptown Automatic Wannabe Your Lover Glam Slam Why you Wanna You got the look Another Lover Get Off Cream Diamonds & Pearls 1999 America

Didn't have it in HMV here today. Sometimes the good stuff doesn't make it all the way over to Ireland so I ordered it online just to be on the safe side. The HMV version seems to be the better of the two with 8 more tracks and play.com are out of stock at the moment anyway.

Okay, quick review after watching the DVD yesterday afternoon. Per my previous post, the tracklisting on the back of the DVD case is as follows:
Kiss Let's Pretend Red Corvette Alphabet Street Money Don't Matter Power Generation Dirty Mind Girls and Boys Raspberry Beret Sexuality Controversy Your Man Thieves Uptown Automatic Wannabe Your Lover Glam Slam Why you Wanna You got the look Another Lover Get Off Cream Diamonds & Pearls 1999 America However, the track listing on the DVD itself is a little different. In the DVD menu, the tracks are listed in the following order: Raspberry Beret Peach (Live) - is actually America Girls and Boys Mountains - is the colours version, not the black and white version from UTCM Kiss Anotherloverholenyohead (Live) I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man (Live) - sound quality on this is on a par with the recent SOTT remastered DVD U Got The Look - sound quality as above Alphabet Street I Wish U Heaven - the brightness on this video seems to have been ramped to the max, as it's really difficult to see anything clearly. I've only seen this video once or twice on TV however, so maybe it's supposed to be that way? Glam Slam Partyman New Power Generation - good God, I's almostmanaged to forget how bad this song is... Thieves In The Temple Gett Off Cream - the version from the Hits DVD Insatiable Diamonds and Pearls Money Don't Matter 2 Night - the 'performance' version, not the full Spike Lee cut. I Wanna Be Your Lover Uptown Dirty Mind Controversy Sexuality Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad? 1999 Little Red Corvette Let's Pretend We're Married Automatic Overall, the video and sound quality is fine. Regardless of the legality, the presentation of the DVD feel distinctly amatuerish, from the quality of the DVD cover insert, to the fact that none of the track listings correspond, to the apparently random order of the tracks themselves. Still, for only eight pounds, it would be churlish to complain too much.

I thought I'd pick this up before it is withdrawn. It's not bad for eight quid - 29 videos in all - the quality isn't great on some of them, but then many of the videos have never been remastered for DVD.
I would love to see a 'complete' Prince promo video boxset. All the videos (including alternative/extended versions) in chronological order with liner notes. I think it would have to be done alongside Prince though, as he is rumoured to have dozens of unreleased promo videos, even of songs we have never heard of. [Edited 3/21/07 6:39am] U been bamboozled, hoodwinked, took.

I know some people were disappointed only the cut version made it to the recent remastered Batman DVD and were crying out for the better, fuller version.
