Sign of the Times as a single album

If you HAD to make SOTT a single album (say cut It down to 10 songs)… which songs would you keep and which would you cut out?? I know this might upset people as the general consensus is that it is PERFECT, but I would be interested in seeing what people pick..

SOTT
Play in the Sunshine
Housequake
The Ballad of Dorothy Parker
Starfish and Coffee
IT
Hot thing
If I was your girlfriend
Strange Relationship
Adore

fits perfectly on a single disc

i have the whole thing on one disc. i don't know how it got worked out...i think bits of fade-outs were shaved down here and there...but someone very graciously sent me a fan-remastered version of the entire SOTT album on one 80 minute CDR.

Actually, I've fit it on a single disc before. If you get rid of the 1 or 2 second pause between songs it totally fits. lol

i feel that way about 'soul love', though somewhere over the last 20 years i've learned to accept it, kinda like that socially inept step-relative who came into the family and nobody liked, but eventually you had to be nice to because you realized they weren't going anywhere.

I used to love Slow Love.

Now I'm not fond of it. I don't dislike it yet, but it's a track I will skip when I'm not in the "full album" mood.

I did the same thing. I just takes a few minor tweaks to get it to fit.

yes, but its not up to the standard of the rest of the songs. If you put it on any NON-Prince album it is instantly the best song, but as its on SOTT, it doesnt live up.

i know this is an overused comment, but if 'beautiful night' were left off and circulated only as bootleggage, people would be screeching about how great it is!

Beautiful Night is a little too busy against the rest of the CD. It is a great song but SOTT feels like a demo almost. Like he was still working on it. Beautiful does not maintain that feeling, it breaks the whole demo feel. Slow Love again is very slick and over-produced. Great songs but not that demo like feel. Like Dirty Mind is an example of Prince doing an album like that

"beautiful night" sounds like a fun wrap party at the end of a very long production, and "adore" is like the epilogue. that's how i've always interpreted it.

Then I think (which is just me being picky) I was a little upset that the version in the movie was different from the one the TAPE (that's for the old school folks)!

OFF TOPIC FOR A MOMENT - I wish that the Muppet Starfish and Coffee remix was availble.

SOTT isn't perfect in my view

there are classic songs and overrated songs to me, it should have been a single LP

I think if the tracklisting was :

Sign O the Times
It's Gonna Be A Beautiful Night
The Ballad of Dorothy Parker
Strange relationship
If I Was Ur Girlfriend
The Cross
Adore
Starfish And Coffee

It would be perfect biggrin

Beacuse they are not as good as the other songs in the top ten.. perhaps Forever in My life and "Hot Thing" can be swapped!!
