What Prince songs would be a hit if got radio play?

Why do I continue to hear people say Prince hasn't had a hit since 1984 or Purple Rain?

I think the reason people say that is because Prince's music just isn't played on the radio much these days, a lot of his music still sounds better than some "#1" songs they play.

What Prince songs since Purple Rain do you think would have been close to a major hit, only if it would have gotten more attention? I know he's had hits since Purple Rain, but there are so many that are great songs, IMHO.

I always loved God Created Woman, amongst others.

Last December - with Prince wearing blue jeans and a t-shirt in the video.

I really don't understand commercial/top 40 radio anymore.
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Too many songs would make big hits if they got ample radio play, and top 40 radio where a bit different (there is just way way too much junk on radio that Prince's music sounds weird in the mix).

Not sure, but I noticed today that on iTunes "Black Sweat" is his #10 most downloaded song and "Musicology" is #11. Not sure if this is computed based on the entire history, though, as that would explain it since they're newer and of course, iTunes hasn't been around that long.

I think a radio friendly "Violet the Organ Grinder" and "Days of Wild" would've faired well on the charts.

Definitely would agree with that! By far one my favorites of all times! I would love to have had singles of "A Million Days", "Insatiable", "319", or "Extra Lovable". I could go on but all of those would have definitely been hits! music headbang

Insatiable was a hit on the R&B charts but I'm still digging the rest of your list.319 was definately another potential hit off of TGE!

I guess I was too young for radio play of "Insatiable". I guess thats what I get for being born in 83.

"Goodbye," definitely. Beautiful, catchy, memorable, and timeless sounding, with a nice modern sheen.

I'm still mystified as to why it didn't make the cut on Emancipation. I'll admit it's relatively downbeat compared to most of the stuff on there, but still - This song gets great responses from people whenever I play it.

May I ask what SLM4M? I usually can figure em out but this one stumped me.

As for your question, I think A Million Days would have been a hit. And Shh as mentioned. I love Prince, but he definately isn'y great at picking singles.

Top 40 for several weeks. Number 1 on several radio stations (airplay hit). A total of three Top 40 hits this decade, I believe (Last December, Musicology, Black Sweat).

This is a no brainer... Silicon, Black Sweat, New Power Soul, Incense and Candles... so many newer songs that should be hits.

4 me:

TGE: Shhh
Emance: Sleep Around & My Computer
TRC: 1+1+1=3
Music: A Million Days
3121: Love

These are imo radio friendly songs that could have worked.
I just can't believe all the things people say !
