To me, it isn’t about what’s Oscar worthy, since that’s so subjective. It does, however, make his absence from a Golden Globes acceptance speech a bigger deal, at least in terms of exposure (if that’s what he wanted). Still, in its own way, by winning a GG, the song represents yet another success for Prince.

What shocks me is the Dream Girls wasn't nominated for Best Picture. Now that's shocking and disappointing. some dude just out of the blue hit me up on aol and told me i wasnt a real man because i went to go see dreamgirls

Well Marilyn Monroe, Pia Zadora, and Madonna were already cited as examples in this very thread so that's 3 at least... And the GGs are not equivalent to the Academy Awards. Golden Globes are voted on by the Hollywood Foreign Press where the Oscars are decided by SAG, I believe. If you read a few posts abour yours, you can see where this is being discussed... The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

Quick question: Beyoncé says: I was so inspired by my character. I wrote songs of the things I wish she would've said... blah, blah, blah. And this appears right b4 Listen. Then, why isn't she in the writing credits 4 the song? She did this once with Irreplaceable. I'm not hating. I'm just wondering.

You read my mind...I was just discussing this with someone the other day and I am so annoyed that he plays roles like that. Just like "Martin" it's almost like the 2 of them take any role out of desperation. It's not like they can't find overweight females to play the role, to the point that they now have Black men dressing up as overweight women just to make a comic scene out of it;besides it's insulting to overweight people. Not to mention he plays overweight men as well. It's just totally ridiculous that it has come to that. He deserves better roles than that. I'd like to see him in some dramatic roles for a change. I would have been happy if Prince did win the Oscar for the song, but he didn't and all is good. Doesn't change a thing though...Brother Prince is still the baddest musician out there! [Edited 1/23/07 13:14pm]

I still think Song Of The Heart won the Golden Globe in part because of the charity aspect.

One thing, Prince clearly wanted an Oscar nomination, there was an ad 'for your consideration' placed in some industry mag and on his 3121 website, so clearly his people felt it was eligible. So they must be disappointed.
Secondly, the only reason the song wasn't in the body of the movie was because the movie was practically complete when he handed over the song. The producers showed him the movie when they were trying to convince him to let them alter words in Kiss.

Very true. Clint Eastwood had a phase in the late 70's/80's where he made horrible movies. He shifted into directing and now consistently makes some of the best movies out there.

It's not surprising that it's happened at some point in the history of the two awards. My question was if any other GG award winner this year was snubbed of an Oscar nomination in the relevant equivalent category in the specific cases where there is an equivalent category. I can see getting the nomination and not winning the award, but it makes no sense to not even have gotten the nomination.

As some have mentioned the song was written for an animated movie directed at kids (first and foremost). they could not have put Black Sweat or Love on there. Kids love the song and I think it fits the movie perfectly.
The bigger picture though is that the Oscars, the GG's and the Americans are shying away from the movie Happy Feet. I watched the movie and thought it was brilliant but then again I'm an environmentalist. The hierarchy are worried that the message of the film was too strong and may upset some people. I don't think they can accept that an animated move can be also aimed at adults with an environmental message. It was a complete joke that Cars won best animated movie at the GG's. Seen it and doesnt compare to Happy Feet. Perhaps there should be a new category "Best Animated film for adults". Maybe there is also some resentment that Happy Feet was made by Australians and we are losing that "flavour of the month" that has happened for a number of years. I hope I am proven wrong and it at least wins Best Animated film at the Oscars because as far as I can see it is the only nomination it received.

Pixar films still start out using traditional 2-D hand-drawn images, then they make 3-D models, and then go to the computer to finish the animation. (I just learned this b/c Pixar is featured in an exhibition that I give tours on. ) Also, check out South African artist, William Kentridge. He makes short films out of charcoal drawings that he does on a single sheet of paper (instead of multiple 'cells'). He's not an animator, but his work is really fantastic. (I wrote my Master's Thesis on one of his films.) The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. I wonder how many songs from Chicago got nominated? I bet it wasn't fucking three; plus one song is from a documentary?! You know those democrats in Hollywood gotta keep sucking on Al Gore's toes. And, hate to burst the hate bubble, but the song is very nice--better then all the crap from 3121. All you others say Hell Yea!!
