Prince, the rip-off artist

Prince's "Reflection" blatantly mimics Chaka's "Smokin Room" nod

Nominate a rip-off here biggrin

I don't blame (because the songs as a whole are different) but here are a couple "lifts"

Forever in My Life--Everyday People

Wherever You Go--Wherever You Go (Richard Marx)

Thieves in the Temple--Say Say Say

What Do You Want Me To Do--Cant Help It(?) Michael Jackson (?)

Lets Work--Head

Yeah, it's the same as Rick James TOTALLY ripped of Hammer's "U Can't Touch This", with "Super Freak". What is Prince and Rick's problem? razz

"Cars" Gary Numan = "Automatic"
"What The Hell" - Ohio Players = "Computer Blue"
"Vietnamese Baby" - New York Dolls = "Ronnie talk To Russia"
"Get It On (Bang A Gong) T-Rex = "Cream"
"Revolution" The Beatles = "Paisley Park"
Other than these, P actually has used more lyrics or similar phrases from other artists than the actual music. Here's just a few:

"Don't Worry,...if there's a Hell below, we're all going to go." Curtis Mayfield
"Don't Worry,...I won't hurt u. I only" well, ya'll know the rest.
"Mommy, what's a Funkadelic?" - Funkadelic
"Mommy, why does everybody have a bomb?"
"International Feel" Todd Rundgren = "International Lover"
John Lennon's "Woman" "I never meant to cause you any sorrow or pain" = "Purple Rain "I never meant to cause u any sorrow. I never meant to cause u any pain."
SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."
nammie "What BGZ says I believe. I have the biggest crush on him."

Little Red Corvette - Brand New Key. Melanie Safka.
Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!
woot!

Easily the worst song jacking of his career:

3 Chains of Gold on the Symbol album is a blatant rip off of
Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen
"If you wanted to buy a Sam Cooke album, where would you go?"

agreed, and for him to then accuse Lenny of stealing it from him is even worse. It's lyrics like that that make me wonder about Prince's sanity.

When I heard Diamonds & Pearls I figured it must be some kind of metaphor, because he couldn't be writing such cliche lyrics.

Work That Fat (outtake) copied Martika's Kitchen
One Of Us copied Love... Thy Will Be Done

Man, Prince totally copied Martika - twice! Shows what an innovator she was...

U R all certifiably straight-jacket worthy.

A) Every musician is influenced by what they hear.
B) Even without hearing something, it's inevitable that more than 1 being would create similar music, be it harmonically, melodically, rythmically, etc.
C) There's a BIG difference between A, B, or A+B, versus "ripping something off".

Prince is A or B or both A & B, and maybe also sometimes simply giving a nod 2 a classic with respect. Jamie Starr is NOT a thief.

Peace.

G.
