I was just reacting on a thread about cover-art, saying that emancipation has the worst cover-art of any Prince album ever.

To build a bit further on this: in my opinion the artwork is downright disturbing. The colours dont match in any way, the computer generated images are ugly as hell and the general feeling the artwork recalls is a feeling of strong detachment, nervous breakdown, mental illness.

There's is nothing in the artwork that might be relaxing, or to relate to on a personal level, its all downright unconvincingly posing, ugly colours, ugly images. The artwork reminds me a lot about the interview Prince gave to Oprah around that time, posed answers that might sound sane for a 3 year old, but showing a lot of darkness, unease, trouble underneath the surface.

I have always questioned Prince as an artist surfing the edge of 'sanity', but with this artwork he shows (consciously or not) he is a mentally ill person.

i didn't know there was a scientific link between album covers and mental behavior.

I would pay top dollar for a pay-per-view roundtable discussion between Riverpoet31, MickG and sacredwarrior.

Mental illness played out on his album covers? Of course this is assuming that Prince made said covers, which he didn't. SOme were perhaps bad choices, but I don't think any of them suggest mental illness.

welllll....prince DID do art direction on several of his albums, and of course he supposedly designed the 1999 cover himself. i think his involvement in the look of his albums has diminished over the last decade in particular, but there was a time he seemed to be very involved in how his records looked.
