How did the performance of "When doves cry" look live? You hear folks say that it looked cheesy with the mirrors but I thought the performance was great on video.

Yes, He was here in Philly back then on tour and I thought it looked great but my fav was the bathtub.

That is why I was wondering how it looked live...it looked tight on video (even for being in the 80's).

it was cool live - i saw the tour live in indianapolis. it was a very choreographed tour, but it didn't so much feel that way. the 'when doves cry' part was like what's on the syracuse video, only obviously without the mirror effects.

I saw Worcester March 28, 1985. I was so excited to be there, a lot of it's a blur. But I did meet Jerome Benton and got an autograph!

Just kidding. But it must have been a *very* exciting thing to witness. No matter how many archive pictures you see, articles you read, first-hand witnesses you talk to, to actually have seen it live at that point in time must've been incredible.

Yes, I was there!!! The 1st and last show during the 5 consecutive shows in SF, CA. Truly, awesome. I even have a couple of photos. Bill Graham, bless his soul, tried to confiscate my camera. I managed to take the film out, but then he didn't pursue the issue. I put the film back in the camera, but of course, no more photos...still, were fantastic concerts...LOL, I even had little kids running up to me after the show to ask for my autograph..it was amazing, and fun!

i actually liked to see him .... but have to admit .. i did not like the seats ... did not like the sound ... etc .... i never liked 1999 and/or whendovescry "live" ... they are both great songs ... but ... thats just my opinion ....

WDC was my favorite Prince song at the time, but I wasn't that impressed by it live. Granted, it's one of those songs that has never been as good live as the studio version, imho.

Nevertheless, it was a great show. Nosebleed seats, but amazing nonetheless.

Yep, when he came to Madison Square Garden I saw the show and it was the best performance I've ever seen! Great music and he was having a lot of fun on stage.

Of course I was there. I seen him 5 times on this tour. 3 at The Forum in L.A and twice at Long Beach. "When Doves Cry" was one of my fave cuts during the tour. They interplay between P and Mark was off the hook. Mark's bass playing was excellent. He was slangin' and poppin' all the while going step for step with P while they were dancing. On all of the nights I went to, P stretched that song for 15 minutes easy.

for those who are jealous --- i will add this --- ... that was back in the day when we DID NOT know when the tour was ... i remember walking up to ticketmaster .... being bummed that i missed the date ... and then someone said .. tix just went on sale for a third show... i was like all excited "cool" ... so i got 3 tickets ... needless to say i sat behind the band and stage !!!! ... i remember the salesman sayin "oh yeah ... they are gooood seats cus u are closer " ....

i remember vividly my heterosexual friend saying "oh yeah ... i saw his ass ... thats about it !!!"

It was my second concert(1st was REM/Minutemen). Kicked ass! We had nosebleed seats, and this was before the age of huge video screens, so Prince & co. were little paisley draped dots. But the sound was killer, and Purple Rain brought the house down. "Is Greensboro in this mutha fucka?!"

Ahh.. those were the days of camping out for tickets

I was there at one of the shows after Christmas at the now non-existant St. Paul Civic Center. It was a great show...I just remember being on the floor..."flowers" dropping 2 the floor from above and my tour book in hand and my brother and I just jammin' throughout the entire show...and wishing that we were the guy called up on stage with Sheila E.

No. The closest he came to Jackson was New Orleans which is about three hours away.

It was my senior year and my mother was going to drive me and a friend of mine down there. The morning of concert it started snowing. I told my mother we had better hurry and go before the snow gets too bad. She said ..."No, take your ass to school. We will go after school"

I kept listening to the school closings on the radio and we were the only school in the state of Mississippi that had to go to school that day. The principal had driven from his house to the school with no problem. When I got to school, very few people were there. The snow got worse and the school let us go home at lunchtime. By that time, the interstates had closed.

We had several inches of snow, something that is rare in Mississippi. The power went out and we spent the whole weekend without electricity. I be damned if the sun came out Sunday afternoon and melted all the snow in time for us to go back to school Monday morning.

When I got to school, I had to listen to all the people that had skipped school Friday talk about the concert. What pissed me off the most is that I had been into Prince since 1979 and the majority of their asses had only discovered him either with "Purple Rain" or "Little Red Corvette". Life can sure turn out to be a bitch sometimes.

yes, I got last minute tickets from my friend who won them on the radio (he went the previous night and preferred the money I gave him to going again).

But I was only 13 and had to get in touch w/ my brother so he go with me & drive, and that almost didn't happen.

I don't remember the mirrors. I remember:

I remember everything about that weekend very well. Even down to lighting candles and pulling out the battery operated radio. I can even remember a lot of the songs the radio was playing the night of the concert such as.....

I was there--he did something like seven nights in Detroit and I think I saw the first and maybe the fifth?

I remember sitting out overnight to get tickets and still getting not so great seats for the first night. The second concert I attended was much closer but we had a kind of obstructed view.
