If Prince is a style setter.....

why isn't he in this show ?

All the clothes he seems to have and he couldn't send these people one item?
Really, I'm not sure why...maybe it wasn't well curated.

They will show a clip from one of his DVD's, however.

What one item of his clothing should have been included?

Because it's blood sucking on americana pop culture.

I don't see prince as a style setter. Although i do realize he's a style all his own and that deserves large props.

However, that's just regurgertation of american pop culture, because that's what sells. Do you think they would have a show with a bunch of John and Jane Doughs?
News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.
Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so.
You have those internalized issues because you want to, you like to, stop.

It's a museum. That's what museums do..." regurgertation". But I understand what you're saying. It almost seems that the pop slant is only to draw in the crowds...but in the context of the show, it doesn't necessarily have to be the case.

If it's truly built around hip-hop culture, then I get why many aren't included, but if it is, why is Tina Turner? And if they managed to tie Prince in (and they did) why not go after an article of clothing/jewelry?

Maybe it's just not well done.

And you're wrong about the style setter part. He has made a mark on the world of fashion.

Hey! mad I work at a museum and we don't just regurgitate, we also dumb down for the masses. lol

Maybe they couldn't put in assless pants because it would be considered obscene and school groups wouldn't be allowed in that gallery. giggle
Or maybe because Prince isn't black. (<--I'm only kidding about that!)

But seriously, are you sure Prince isn't included? I can't tell from the web description--it doesn't list all the pieces. I gotta go see this show...the museum where I work isn't far from there. If there's no Prince I'll demand to speak with the curators and know why not!! (j/k)

Yes, they're only showing a clip from an early DVD of his.

The show will cause controversy, because of what is included as well as excluded. Maybe this is intentional. I'm not sure of the scope or how they even fit Prince in, but if it begins with fashion from the 70's, as they claim and the focus is hip-hop, why is he there? and why is Tina Turner?

It seems their "out" is that they have also included influential designers.
Michael Henry Adams is the one to speak with. He curated the show.
I don't get the logic behind it or the thread that connects it all but it doesn't open until tomorrow.
