Howard Stern's Vault release and Prince

So Howard is releasing something like 20k hours of recordings from his days in terrestrial radio. His fans are going RABID over the fact that he's playing favorite recordings requested by fans. I personally think that this will bring in many, many more people over to Sirius.

The promo's that play refer to the recordings as "the vault," as if he's opened it and is allowing fans to rummage through the material to find the stuff they found the most entertaining.

I thought about Prince during all of this today, as I can't help but wonder what effect it would have on his standing if he were to announce that he was releasing his material, asked fans for requests, etc., etc. I know it will never happen, but damn, the way Stern is doing this is genius. He is creating a fever pitch in his fan base...even those who think Stern has lost it, they'll be coming back and jumping on board to hear the stuff they miss.

I think Prince needs to spend a semester at Dartmouth, or another good B school to get some marketing chops.

yeah, he negotiated with his old radio station and got it done.
I've been a fan of his for a while so I've heard more than enough of Stern "best of" shows and can do without more re-runs. PRINCE however is a different story. It would be great if he did the same thing!!

It helped that Howard's old boss filed an asinine lawsuit against him...it would have been laughed out of court, but Howard was able to get all his tapes back as part of a settlement of that suit.

So, unless WB sues Prince for something ridiculous...?

Indeed, it would be phenomenal if Prince did this. Prince should also consider a channel on Sirius where he can release this type of material. WNPG, I think this was Shorty's idea and it was a damn good one. Jimmy Buffett has his own station and unfortunatley, Sirius is lacking a Funk station. What an opportunity for someone like Prince to reach his fans in a brand new way.

yeah! someone remembered!
SWEET!
yeah I think it's so awesome that howard got his tapes back. seems odd, there was a lawsuit against howard but howard got the tapes...strange. I'm actually looking forward to all the old musical performances...he's had some amazing ones.
It would be a great idea for Prince to use as well.
"not a fan" falloff yeah...ok
