The Sacrifice Of Victor(The concept behind that song)??

What I'm trying 2 say is what does he looking 4?? There're lotta confusing things in that song like:

1-I was born on a blood stained table
Cord wrapped around my neck
Epilectic 'til the age of 7
I was sure heaven marked the deck

2-1967 in a bus marked public schools
Rode me and a group of unsuspecting political tools
Our parents wondered what it was like 2 have another color near
So they put their babies together 2 eliminate the fear
We sacrifice yes we did
Fighting one another, (we sacrifice) (don't say it preacher)
All because of color
The angel of hate - she taught me how 2 kick her
If she called me anything but Victor (u mean like nigger?)
If the only thing that tells me is father time
Then sacrifice is the mutha sublime - we love it

3-Never understood my old friends laughing-MD & A
They got high when everything else got wrong (pass the booze up here)
Dr. King was killed and the streets
They started burnin'
When the smoke was cleared, their high was gone
Education got important, so important 2 Victor
A little more important than ripple and weed
Bernadette's a lady, and she told me (what she say?)
"Whatever u do son, a little discipline is what u need,
is what u need, u need to sacrifice"

3-Lord I might get tired,
but I, I've got 2 keep on Walkin' down this road,
(joy around the corner)
When I reach my destination (My name will be Victor

Its FUNKY yes but it does have the sad mood with a little hope at the end. I just don't anderstand it at all. I know that MD is Morris Day(But who's A??) Bernadette's a lady?? The hole thing is pretty DARK!

A is Andre and Bernadette is Andre's mom, whom Prince lived with for awhile.

it's a great song and I just love the version he plays on the ABC tv special "Act I" (I think it was called like that) from 1992. He was dressed all in white and the Steeles were the backing choir. The song was turned much to a gospel tune (mainly thanks to the Steeles) but still the funk was there too.

The song is quite personal I believe but it also summarises the experience of African Americans in 1960's.

Prince suffered from epileptic seizures for some time as a child. They eventually stopped. Prince had a very difficult like as child and adolescent. Listen to his music. From Live For Love, he says

Kicked out of my home at 17
A real family- now what does that mean
don't nobody know the trouble I've seen
How can I Live for Love?

By the way, this song is one of my favorite from Prince- great guitar work by him on this one!

I think he went to live with Andre Simone(Anderson) and his family when he was kicked out at 17. Perhaps the A is for Andre. Andre's mother was named Bernadette Anderson. Regarding what she said to him, when we accept discipline, we sacrifice, and conform. We "give up" on what we wanted. On Sacrifice of Victor, I think the message is we all have to sacrifice, and conform sometimes, because what we want to do isn't the best thing to do.
The road you choose to walk in this life, is a road that leads to the next.....

I read that Prince and his younger sister had faced racism while getting 2 school. The white kids used 2 chase them and call names. Prince did have it pretty rough as kid. I also remember reading that Prince's dad had kicked him out 1 time and Prince was on the pay phone crying and begging 2 come back. But his father still said no. That's fucked up being shuffled from place 2 place, especially in the frigid north.
