I'd rather spend a weekend in Vegas seeing P at a club than spend $75 seeing him in some shit-sound arena.
sign me up! if this is it for 3121, however, P is screwing the euro-fams. a psychotic is someone who just figured out what's going on

Shit, he never said that he was going to play there all year, just pop in every few months to jam. Not everything in Vegas is expensive. How do we know there won't be any free shows or underpriced shows? If Prince takes over, then he can set the prices. Vegas is, for better or for worse, the entertainment capital of our country.
He wants people who usually don't like him to experience his sound--can't blame him for that. Keep our powder dry, until we see how this goes. It may be a great idea. Glam Slam was a cool idea, when it lasted, why not try this. Just a thought. Of course, that's easy for me to say, since I live in the west. lol All you others say Hell Yea!!

Temptation said: Puh-lease! Any thoughts of Prince's demise - artistic or otherwise - are extremely premature. Vegas has been a big part of Prince's career for the last 10 years, and the town has been blessed with many great Prince shows and aftershows. Prince's technical abilities as a player, his eccentric sense of style, and his artistic curiosity are always on point in Vegas. He's played rare versions of some of his catalog's most meaningful songs at Vegas aftershows. It's a 24-hour playground, over the top, easily accessible and built for maximum convenience. These shows could be as cool as the Paisley Park Love4oneanother run in 1995, or the Celebration at Paisley in 2002. Matter of fact, in Vegas, you don't have to rent a car and drive around at all hours of the night trying to find your way back to the Chanhassen Inn! You can stay right next door at the MGM Grand, or across the street at New York New York, Excalibur or a ton of other places. After the show, you can go out clubbing, or choose from a wide variety of places to eat. Vegas has always been Prince's perfect playground. He feels appreciated there, and it runs on his timeline. Just like the rest of us, Prince does his best work when he's at ease in an environment of appreciation and respect. I predict that anyone on this board who attends a Prince show in Vegas will have a helluva lot of fun, and they will have good memories of the event for the rest of their lives. But hey, I'm an optimist, and I can only speak from experience. By all means, you theory and conjecture experts who've never attended a Prince show in Vegas, bitch on! Meanwhile a lot of Prince fans will be enjoying great shows in Vegas this summer. I was about to say I don't see how this is any different than when he was holed up in MN for years and only the people who live there or were willing to drive or fly to east jiblip ever got to see any shows other than "hits" tours. Except for the fact that people now can't complain about the air-conditioning (or lack thereof) on the Paisly Park soundstage or how small the L41A room is. . My take on the Vegas move....
I was actually thinking that this had to do with a couple of things: 1) Vegas has been white hot for the past few years, beyond kitsch value. Many, many stars (incl. the Lindsay Lohan's of the world) have been purchasing homes and making day trips. I do agree with whoever said that Prince is on the tail end of it. 1) He is trying to balance his need to have outlets for his musical expression, with his desire not to "dilute" his cache in such a way that he can't command top dollar. Soon elite LA will tire of his parties and he's not popular enough for folks other than ourselves to be making treks to Minnesota -- we've aged out of that for the most part and the young folks aren't into him enough for that. As was already brought up here, Vegas commands top dollar. What choice does he have? I think the fact that Vegas is a 24hr, time-defying kind of place, it is a really good fit, considering the hours he keeps. 2) If he doesn't have to travel that much, then he can actually set himself up to have a family. Which, btw, is why a lot of stars are doing the Vegas thing. Celine, Toni Braxton, Gladys Knight.... Come here, babe.. yeah...

He migh have trouble selling out arenas again if he doesn't play the hits, and the theatre shows probably don't pay as much as Vegas and it's alot of traveling and hotels. He's ready to settle down, and I would rather have Vegas than some private party in LA with no invite. ______________________________________________

First of all, I highly doubt this is going to be some Vegas style revue with cheesy costume changes, a crowd pleasing hits medley and a set in stone show. . . Really? So, you missed the Musicology tour, then? oh noes, prince is gonna soo me!!1!

It is the entertainment capital in the U.S and let's be honest P is a great performer and all the fans on the West Coast and other parts of the world can go see him and have a great trip in a really fun city. In addtion, I am sure P has arranged to take breaks so he can tour and record music. Some of you guys are to negative.

We have to tak a "wait and see" approach to this. This is only temporary but even if it became permanent then it's what it is and we make the choice to go and see him if we want to. At least we'd know where he's playing all the time. But seeing how Prince is, I can't see him staying there long. The way he changes with music, even with clothes and hair, that's all proof that it's going to bore him at some point if there he is there for a while. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

He had issues with the sound techs both nights so maybe he will change his mind.
The last two nights were two of the best concerts I've ever seen by anyone. [Edited 5/29/06 10:51am]

If Prince wants to make it intermate, he should take the music ( and the word if he must) to the people who live it everyday, not the people that can throw money at it and view him as something 'to do' after dinner. These people would as sooner go and see Robbie Williams if he was playing.
Is it still real to you - or are you playing a sort of Elvis game? Spangley suit, fading talent. you owe your fans a little more than a distance to travel and a huge ticket price...

This is why I would never go to Vegas to see a concert. Many of the folks in the audience won't be "real fans".It'll be a bunch of tourists who just happened to be in town that night and thought "Let's go see Prince...he's that crazy guy who sang "When Doves Cry" in the 80s" Vegas crowds are also known to be really dead...sitting through entire concerts.

Prince is almost 50 years old. He has been on the road most of his career. He has given all of us many chances to see him at average concert ticket prices or less. If he wants to settle in one place for a while and still makes some money, why not? Let the man rest for a while. He has paid his dues on the road, we get our money's worth at a live show.

Good Got! Give the man a break.
So what if he does a stint in Vegas!!! Those smaller venues provide an intimate setting, and are sometimes funner than having people barf, shove, spill all over you. ^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^

I hope he is happy and at peace with whatever he decides. Everybody can't be Mick Jagger when it comes to touring. We know Prince has some knee problems, and God only knows what else. There are some miles on that caddy, Baby !!- and yes it is time to rest. I have vivid photographic memories of the tours that I actually knew about, and got a chance to party on, and I'm sad for the tours I never knew about and subsequently- missed. I have a huge sore spot for the Richmond, VA show on the Purple Rain Tour. I camped out for tickets, and missed a Friday AM chemistry lab at VCU- which dropped my grade to a "C". The show was postponed indefinately from 10/1984-4/1985- then cancelled for refund. Lots of Love to Prince, anyway... I saw some great East Coast Shows.. Many of us partied with Prince because he came to our town- Vegas- well- is a different story. The East Coast heads will miss the wild ride!!! The road you choose to walk in this life, is a road that leads to the next.....

You people need to wake up to Vegas 2006! Vegas does NOT have the same reputation for turning artists into "lounge lizards" as it did some 30 years ago.....
In the last several years Las Vegas has become a popular destination for big name artists to perform in for brief to extended periods of time and make millions in the process: Elton John, Celine Dion, Barry Mannilow, Sheena Easton, even Britney Spears is considering performing long term engagements there in the near future.
