Maybe Mani finally gave birth and he's retiring to spend more time with the family... The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

IF it goes the other way in that it is a "hits revival" show. Nope, not me. Yeah, no "hits revival" for me either. It would have be 3 hours of nothing but Prince...no W&L, no Sheila E, no Larry Graham, no Tamar and not even The Time.

i think it sounds kinda cool, actually. i might even go, after allvegas is so sparkly. but i'd kinda like to see the venue first... if it's one of those cramped, dark little spaces i'd just get all claustrophobic. general admission....
i'm reserving judgment. but i think i might like this idea

On a scale of 4 to 1, 4 being the absolute worse and 1 the best :
4. Prince goes Vegas for several years with a setlist that is almost all hits and bores the hell out of his fans while charging major money for admittance. 3. Prince goes Vegas but not for years and has a good percentage of songs that were not performed to death in the past. 2. Prince is there only for the summer and only to recreate the 3121 party feel he had at his home -- something like the Purple ticket party but expanded. 1. Prince realizes that staying in Vegas is a bad idea and opts for a tour.

Prince finally realises that his fans are a lot more savvy than he originally gave them credit for, and tours with a varying ticket price structure so that it's affordable to all factions of his fanbase - instead of trying to bleed them dry through the monopoly of his talent and alienating and fragmenting the very same people who put him where he is in the first place because of his current 'us and them' exclusivity mindset. 3121 should be more than just a number...'buddy'

The trend these days is to do a stint in Vegas and charge obscene prices because they know that tourists will shell out the cash.
This is all about money, imo.

This is goign to be great for him.
His shows will be constantly sold out. He'll make tons of 'tour' money while staying in one luxiourious place.... since he's older now, he could use such a nice set-up.

Puh-lease! Any thoughts of Prince's demise - artistic or otherwise - are extremely premature. Vegas has been a big part of Prince's career for the last 10 years, and the town has been blessed with many great Prince shows and aftershows. Prince's technical abilities as a player, his eccentric sense of style, and his artistic curiosity are always on point in Vegas. He's played rare versions of some of his catalog's most meaningful songs at Vegas aftershows. It's a 24-hour playground, over the top, easily accessible and built for maximum convenience. These shows could be as cool as the Paisley Park Love4oneanother run in 1995, or the Celebration at Paisley in 2002. Matter of fact, in Vegas, you don't have to rent a car and drive around at all hours of the night trying to find your way back to the Chanhassen Inn! You can stay right next door at the MGM Grand, or across the street at New York New York, Excalibur or a ton of other places. After the show, you can go out clubbing, or choose from a wide variety of places to eat. Vegas has always been Prince's perfect playground. He feels appreciated there, and it runs on his timeline. Just like the rest of us, Prince does his best work when he's at ease in an environment of appreciation and respect. I predict that anyone on this board who attends a Prince show in Vegas will have a helluva lot of fun, and they will have good memories of the event for the rest of their lives. But hey, I'm an optimist, and I can only speak from experience. By all means, you theory and conjecture experts who've never attended a Prince show in Vegas, bitch on! Meanwhile a lot of Prince fans will be enjoying great shows in Vegas this summer. [Edited 5/26/06 20:18pm]

Y'all are trippin'! I can't believe how quickly some folks are ready to throw in the towel. It's really not that big of a deal.
First of all, I highly doubt this is going to be some Vegas style revue with cheesy costume changes, a crowd pleasing hits medley and a set in stone show. I have a feeling these will be like aftershows or the 3rd Celebration with something different every time. The email promises a blistering guitar set. Does that sound like Vegas to you? Are Vegas shows typically held in general admission clubs? No. Just because this is in Vegas (not a city I'm crazy about either), doesn't mean it's going to be a rock 'n roll cliché. I have a feeling there's going to be a lot of crow-eating when this is all said and done.
