New topic Printablesuomynona said: Someone earlier in this thread said that the show was seen by 90 million viewers. Try one third of that. Overnight Nielsen ratings say that only 29.3 million saw watched "American Idol."
That's because 14.6 million Americans have a brain and watched something besides reality television. As for what "3121" is doing on Amazon, so what. Is that going to encourage Prince to go on tour this year? Is it going to encourage more $312 ticket prices? Let's face it, the performance was awful. Prince is a musician. Where was the guitar? The piano? Those of you that are so excited about this - give it a few days and then reflect. It was no R&R HOF performance. Hell, it wasn't even the 2004 Grammys. Then again, I'm thankful I didn't have to hear that new godawful chorus from "Let's Go Crazy" again. He should've performed "Fury." Or sang a duet with Mary J. Blige. Maybe "Sweet Thing" backing her on guitar or piano. What a wasted opportunity. You guys are way off base on this. AI is a SINGING show. Prince sung and kicked some booty. Of course it was not his "norm", but this was not his "normal" venue. Stop tripping.

I just read this entire thread this morning. Two things I enjoyed the most:
1. Reading all the posts in the beginning from people that VOWED that Prince would not be on the show. 2. The reaction when he first appeared on stage--several posts in a row all saying "OMG!" Love it. I guess I liked the youtube link also. Thanks Stax for posting that.

What's with all your orgers living with your grandmothers?
i HOPE it's because you have a big heart and are taking care of them in their last days on this planet... and not that your parents kicked you out and you can't get your own apartment...LOL 1 Thessalonians 5:23

I didn't think Prince would perform in AI, but I enjoy every time and any time he performs. I am quite sadden by all the negative comments about his decision to perform there. He knows why he chose to do it. I figured I would hear enough negative comments from non-fans. As for the FOX news, they keep criticizing him for being at the Kodak theter for "10 minutes" and then leaving right away. As they said, "they left the Kodak theater faster than the polaroid developed". They are getting caught up on how long he was there for and how he didn't talk to seacrest, as if it were supposed to be an interview... blah blah blah.
Why can't more of the fans simply be happy that we saw him perform?

They REALLY need her on backup. Those twins can not hold it down without her. Were those even the twins though? Seems like a dumb question I guess but one of them looked completely different in the face to me Nevermind, just saw the pic thread. Did you guys see Prince's brief smile at the end of the perfomance? Thankx much, Stax. I wan't counting on him appearing on American Idol.

Bart has been posting in the p&r for sometime now..he is a regular.. and. at all you folks who were dissing AI and saying Prince would never do such a horrible show and blah blah blah....yet now that he is done it folks are all rosy.. (koodoos to those who are remaining consistent in their hatred for AI).. uhh hu... i myself miss the show but have no problem enjoying watching it as a game show. sos OUT! I stand corrected on Bart being on the Org -- I meant the Prince forum, where he rarely posts. He only shows up in that forum to counter recent hype, so I think that's a good sign Prince did well from a marketing point of view. As for your comments on AI, it's perfectly possible to despise the show and to recommend Prince avoids it AND be happy if in fact he did show up and did get great publicity and a decent performance. It's called being pragmatic. Peolple were worried about different formulas, like him having to coach contestants and doing the whole bit. Let's put it this way : if Prince was going to appear on AI, the way he did last night was probably the best way to do it, considering his... hmmmm, various characteristics as an artist.

It was, as usual, magical to see Prince perform. I didn't care if it was on a silly show like AI. I don't think it'll gain him any new fans, but maybe people that like him just a little to begin with that haven't already bought 3121 will go out and buy it. I've heard negative comments about his performance from the same people I usually hear them from about anything he does. Some people have opinions on things that will not change no matter what. To them I say: Your Loss. They don't know what they're missing by not following the man...he's been surprising and exciting me for years now. Hope he keeps it up

Honestly, I didn't think his vocals were as good as they could have been on "lolita", but Satisfied was a classic Prince performance.
The dance moves..well...I've seen him more active. The hip must really be bothering him. I'd be curious how this all came about. Lastly, he left the stage with the attitude "beat this mutherfucka!!"

Well now that he lives in LA and just came out with an album are probably the main reasons why he did the show. It's funny, the local paper here in Vegas states that "Prince showed that AI has earned a measure of respect among serious pop artists." And I doubt that had much to do with it. That grey-haired guy who won really sucks.

All the venom that's being spewed is hilarious.
A 4 minute perfomance on AI is causing some folks to denounce one of the most gifted musician in modern history. I guess all of his accomplishments and achievements in the past 25+ were for naught. Poor Prince, always disappointing his fans.

Prince's chains rattled in the mic right befor he sang "bump bump bump" in Lolita. For some reason, it sounds very cool and in time with the track. Play it back and listen.

heheh took the words out of my mouth. I had it DVR'ed and watched it later that night knowing nothing, I was the same way. "that beat sounds familar what is that...holy crap" I haven't had a Prince momemt like that in a long time. My wife is out of town and is tuning everything out so she can watch the show when she gets back, I can't wait to watch her face because I want her to see the surprise also:)

Poor Prince, always disappointing his fans. Being disappointed is not the same as denouncing Prince. I stick to my statement: this is the most disappointing moment for me as a Prince fan. It doesn't mean that I will sell all my Prince stuff or anything crazy like that. It's just the biggest nadir in the ride for me. But hey, being a Prince fan epitomizes the whole rollercoaster anyway, so I'm sure I'll be on the way up soon. Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Let'a celebrate his legacy by counting down the most beloved Prince albums, as decided by you!
