i stay to me old statment that he is not going to be on. it seems the npgmusic club tells the story... why would he have a vers about idols the night he was said to appear on AI? but i will tivo it just in case!

I'd agree that the bible reference would suggest turning away from American Idol - and if there had been a longstanding rumour that Prince was going to appear on the finale, then that would make sense. But putting up the reference before the rumour is even out there on the day of the finale would suggest he IS involved.

Surely, though, it would be a bad move for the producers - Prince can only steal the thunder of the finalists. Imagine having to go on after Prince has blown the audience away! Tough gig.

What I think is funny is how people like yourself criticize it as being "karaoke", when in reality, it does more to show ones true talent then any other options available in todays entertainment climate.

Think about it...these participants go through many layers of evaulation and critique...mostly in a setting which is designed to eliminate thoughs with no vocal ability. They sing acapella in the initial stages...then graduate to signing with little accompaniment (by way of a backing band). Especially with today's "artists" miming most of their "performances", it's refreshing to see real singers signing real songs for a change.

Now, I'm not talking about the "product" that is "AI". That's a whole other story. Criticize that all you want. But, give respect to the performers for the entertainment they provide. They, at least, deserve that much.

And, to anwwer the question, I think it would be VERY smart for P to perform tonight. At it's heart, music is a "business". And, it'd be a VERY intelligent business move for him to do so.

Just my 2 cents.

Whether you like the show/concept or not. AI brings in 30 million viewers a week and this its 5th season is it highest rated ever. For good or bad its put its mark on the American music scene and its not going away anytime soon.

It would be a very smart marketing move for Prince to perform.

I believe that since Prince knows he is the master of contradictions, he will perform on American Idol tonight, but he just HAD to put up that disclaimer first on NPGMC - basically saying, "I'ma do the show cuz I need to sell my album, but I still don't believe in that American Idol crap".
