Plus, in this day and age, the Internet has opened up a whole new way to network and reach a new audience. True fans of music will at the very least hear about Prince if they explore even a little over the Internet. Prince is still well-known enough to not have to pander to an audience this way. Fair enough. You're right, his presence is definitely on the internet for true fans to find. This show is about introducing him to people who aren't actively searching for him (yet). It's exposure. And let me be very clear that I was EXACTLY where you are when this idea originally floated. I railed against it and prayed he wouldn't stoop to this. And the reason I can ultimately be okay with it is that it (hopefully) gets Prince what he wants. A hit. I don't necessarily agree with it, but it's not my choice. He wants a hit. He wants it bad bad bad. And he's wanted it for a loooong time. And I won't comment on the issue of Prince and hypocrisy. If Prince wants money, I'd be thrilled to fork over $300 for a 20-disc set of outtakes, live performances, etc. Why pander to people who only care when you're the latest trend? 
If it gets Prince a hit, good for him. But it will leave a bad taste in my mouth if he gets it this way. Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Let'a celebrate his legacy by counting down the most beloved Prince albums, as decided by you! | |

It's not blind optimism. Entertainment Weekly recently listed the sales figures for Stevie Wonder, Queen, Barry Manilow, and others who have been on AI this year. Every single one has had a SIZABLE jump in sales following the AI airing. It may not take him back to number one, but I don't think he'd be the only person in a season of "legends" to not see a sales boost.
